San Francisco Losing Kids and Families

I live in Indiana and a lot of my married college friends are buying starter homes for $40 or $50 thousand - and this is near Fort Wayne, so it's not even the really rural part of the state. My parents are looking to buy a really nice house in the city for $300,000. But I'd still love to live someplace like San Francisco or New York or Chicago. I just can't afford it!

Another reason San Francisco's children are disappearing: Family housing in the city is especially scarce and expensive. A two-bedroom, 1,000-square-foot starter home is considered a bargain at $760,000.

I'm shopping for new digs, and I find that it's pretty easy to find affordable housing in areas that aren't fit to live int.

Where I live in Utah we have homes(semi expensive) and kids. We don't have to worry about replacing the population here

There are less expensive places to live near San Francisco. Try East Palo Alto, for instance. It's just a few miles away, with an ambience that is to die for!
