Sacred Music: give me a good suggestion for one CD

I have a gift card for Borders from Christmas that's burning a hole in my wallet. Any suggestions for a good CD to buy with it?

My recommendation would be in the Church's order of preference;

1. Gregorian Chant (any recordings by the monks of Solesmes, or the Benedictine Monks of Maurice, Clairvox).

2. Early polyphony (Organum, 11th-15th century). This period of polyphony is very beautiful, and still is rooted in Gregorian Chant from which it was born.

3. Later polyphony (16th-19th century), such as Palestrina's Missa Pape Marcelli

There's a series called beyond chant that has songs ranging from Hildegard von Bingen to 16th century England. There are a few cd's that they have (one of mine was unfortunately destroyed by one of my kids). The music on these cd's are absolutely gorgeous. Anything by Thomas Tallis is spectacular and there's also a Magnificat cd by Chanticler, which is an all male choir, but after you get used to the male sopranos, the music is divine.

You may not consider it sacred (I do), but anything by Danielle Rose is awesome. If you guys haven't listened, go to Amazon, search her name and listen to the little clips provided. Simply amazing. She has a couple of CD's - one a double CD album. Both are worth getting.

One must remember that many of the classical composers were comissioned by the Church, so there are a whole schlew of Mass settings that are out there. Personally, I like Bach.

I took in Amazon.com under "Sacred Music" and there are a whole listing of albums you might want to take a look at that Boarders might have. There's even a CD of Catholic Latin Sacred Music.

There is a whole lot so make sure your brain isn't too filled.
