any good christian rock groups from the 60's 70's and 80's? the only ones i know of is petra and stryper most of the christian bands are contemparary pop rock and sound bad

As soon as I read Petra, I was reminded of Anberlin. No, not because they are similar (in most songs) just one particular track on Blueprint For The Black Market (Anberlin's first album) Readyfuels (track #1) sounds a lot like Petra.

So yeah...um...there's one song for you :p ^_^

Ah not personally. I have just met them a couple times. Including ex member John James (awesome guy btw) and I live not far from where the Newsboys started out. Did you know they started out funding their band by selling lamingtons ? :p

Their earlier music is quite...different from their current stuff. So it might appeal to someone looking for 80s stuff. Try Read All About It, Hell is Not For Wimps and Boys Will Be Boyz.

LOL yeh, and their first paid show was in a neighbour's garage! They got $100!

I'd love to someday meet James, he does sound like a really tremendous guy.

But as far as those records, I wouldn't bother. They're REALLY bad. LOL Not the kind of rock this person is looking for I think.

Daniel Amos - Despite picking a band name that sounds like a person, DA is, in fact, a band. Started in what? the late 70s or early 80s. Had a great run... their Alarma Chronicles (four thematically linked albums) is their most cited work. They continued releasing music through early 2000s, but pretty much everything is unavailable from most normal outlets. Some of their albums are still available off of their website... or ebay. They were one of the few non-cheesy Christian market bands from that era.

Glass Harp - The Phil Keaggy project that was good enough to not need the Christian Market. Only lasted for three studio albums before Keaggy decided to go solo. But they were hot. Opened for The Kinks and totally brought the house down. Keaggy's solo stuff would be worth checking out, too... although it leans towards acoustic most of the time and is also frequently instrumental.

I agree. My favorite of those is Saved. After more than a quarter century, it still moves me!
