From the Political site Politico. Said by some to have a slight to moderate GOP tilt.

http://www.politico.com/story/2015/...-making-trouble-for-gop-catholics-118234.html.

I personally can't wait for September 24th when the Holy Father addresses a joint session of congress. I expect both parties will get slapped pretty hard. He will almost certainly discuss issues like the full culture of life, poverty, greed, wealth disparity in a hugely wealthy society, the environment etc etc. Hope there is some really good close ups of the members ( Catholic or not) who are running for president. ( love to watch politicians squirm) I really would love for all presidential candidates to attend for the smack down :D

On September 24 will some Catholic Republicans and indeed Democrats give our Pope the same fawning, sychophantic welcome given to Bibi Nethanyahu a few months ago..?

Probably not. One justifies persecuting and oppressing his neighbour while the other will plead to love them.

Quite telling to think the latter will fall on deaf ears.

Speeches that will fall on deaf ears and be forgotten well before election time. Forgotten by politicians, Catholics, and non~Catholics. The awe of the Pope is only a lingering shadow. Gone are the days that emperors crawled on their knees in sack clothes seeking forgiveness from Christ's steward.

It will be interesting to see how many Republican candidates there will be in September--there's a bunch already. I'm glad because the Koch Brothers' and Adelson's bottomless coffers will be depleted in the melée.
So far, I think that Jeb Bush is the only Catholic running, and he's not a member of Congress.
Fox News may compare his visit to a visit by Vladimir Putin or some other Communist leader, because surely if they call economic moderates "socialists" they will have far stronger acronyms for him.

It willbe fun to read all the stories by conservative writers explaining what the Holy Father REALLY meant.
It's usually liberals that play that game from my experience.

Marco Rubio is Catholic.

Pope Francis hasn't come out with the new encyclical yet.

So this is all hot air propaganda coming from the liberal mass media.

Let's wait to see what the Pope actually says.
There's plenty already out there from Benedict, from the pontifical academy of sciences, etc.

If all he does is draw that together and tie it in to Evangelli Gaudium there's enough for people to get upset with.

Of course all that will happen will be some creative interpreting and a lot of ignoring, as there was for Joy of the Gospel.

Exactly!

Despite all of the breathless anticipation from Leftists/Progressives in the Church, the Pope hasn't done anything to alter the Church's position one iota on anything from the positions asserted by Benedict and John Paul II. Once he actually changes something, then we can talk. Even if the Pope turns out to be every bit as sympathetic to the secular-progressive ideology as progressives tell us he is, my response would be to tell them that Francis is 78 years old and therefore it won't be long before there is a new Pope. The vast majority of the College of Cardinals stand ready, willing and able to correct any mistakes (if it even turns out one was made) in the next conclave.

Both of whom were pro environment and affirmed the need to address such things as climate change but are widely ignored.

in other words, you don't care what the church says unless it agrees with you.

This pope is still very much a Catholic, and truth is conservative.
The only change that any pope can change when it comes to Catholicism is the nuance and which aspect of the truth that the spotlight is directed to.

Maybe they aren't making trouble for "liberals". Or maybe some liberals are going "um, interesting point" instead of "ugh, no, he can't really say that". Or maybe some have always been open about considering everything on its merits and don't try to maintain that they believe everything in the first place.

Which liberals are we talking about?

like I have said before, there are many liberals who are better Christians then I am
I might not agree with them on ALL of their economic and political beliefs, but there is room to debate in good faith on some of these issues
and Catholicism has never been in favor of laissez faire Capitalism

They aren't usually too worried about appearing to agree with everything the church says already.

And while Francis disagrees with them on those two points, he's more pastoral about it than his predecessors, so if anything he represents a small step in the right direction.
