If there is a wide scale tyranny of a government Police state, they'd still need troops on the ground to enforce their will. Of course that'll mean Americans killing Americans but such is insurrection.

Plus is it good to have a such a defeatist attitude? That the federal government has enough military might to negate the 2nd amendment purpose? Doesn't seem worth it just dissuade gun owners.
From what I understand, going door to door among a well armed population is not a very pleasant way to engage in warfare for even the best of armies. Of course the army could just bomb the area, or storm it like in Waco that time.

Nonsense. Our friends in Canada have significantly more ethnic diversity than we do but enjoy a far lower murder rate. Ditto Belgium.
In Canada, inner city neighborhoods are not run by ethnic gangs.
In the Anglosphere, the murder rate in GB is at 1/100k. In Australia, that is 1.1/100k, and Canada 1.6.
In America the rate is 4.2, but blacks commit murder at a rate 8x that of whites, and Hispanics at a greater rate than whites as a whole. Culture, and not guns, are the bigger factor.
Factor out the gangs, and the murder rate in white America is similar to that of the rest of the Anglosphere.

Do you understand that blacks are a minority and that even with their commuting violent crimes at a higher rate, whites in the USA still murder at a higher rate than all races combined in the countries I mentioned (each of which have their own ethnic minorities who have been pushed to the fringes of society and have their own crime problems)? Why is Anne Coulter being so selective? Why isn't she addressing the reasons /why/ gangs in Toronto and Belgium kill eachother at a lower rate? The full truth is not politically convinient for conservatives.

and drones

There are many delusional militia who practice in rural areas every day. And the government infiltrates their numbers on a regular basis. Militia will never be a threat to the US government or even any of the National Guards.

This paper investigates the economic growth impact of cultural diversity, both domestically and in neighbouring countries, in a balanced panel of 94 countries covering the period 1970 to 2004. The measures of cultural diversity used in this article were derived from a recently developed computer algorithm intended primarily to measure linguistic distances in an automated fashion. The empirical analysis suggests that the degree of cultural diversity in contiguous neighbouring countries has substantial positive effects on domestic per capita income growth, even controlling for a broad set of regional, institutional, religious and other proximate factors of economic growth. The conclusion is that culturally homogeneous countries gain a strategic advantage over their culturally diverse neighbours.
This is how cultural diversity is measured for the purposes of this highly specific study.

I am not sure what the 'and drones' comment is referring to.

Any private militia would be ineffective. The armed forces have many types of weapons available to them that would be very effective against such opposition, including drones.

I don't know that the best way for an armed, potentially oppressed population to resist is to organize itself into militias. Like you say, they can be easily infiltrated, and watched.
But with the examples of Iraq, and Afghanistan, and even Vietnam behind us, the power of an armed people against an unwelcome army, even the largest army on the planet, is a real thing.
While it was shown in Iraq to be possible that a powerful army with money to bring key players on board may eventually prevail, Iraq also demonstrates how eternal vigilance is required to maintain power on the basis of a strong army alone.

In the meantime, a steady dribble of body bags flowing into the military cemeteries saps up the confidence and sense of purpose of that army.

Militias are what people who like to play games r form in order to entertain themselves, and appear as macho badasses.
Sleeper cells have demonstrated themselves to be much more under the radar, and ultimately more deadly, and more of a threat.

An armed population with a strong belief in freedom, instilled into them through the very Constitution of the US, would be more formidable an oppenent as anything that the Americans have run into in Iraq, or Afghanistan, or Vietnam.

Personally, I think that we have just such a force, the armed forces of the US of America.

The answer to the problems in America is not for everyone to armed to the teeth and trained with militias, so that at anytime a popular crazy person can start a rebellion.

What makes you think that everyone in the military will oblige and serve the government and not the militia? Lincoln found that out the hard way.

I will leave that for those with more understanding of our current command structure.

Let us just say that the armed forces are not independent. Rogue generals would be very limited in what they could accomplish. For example, all missiles and drones are under pretty good central command.

Perhaps they would be limited, but a percentage of the military turning their backs would be demoralizing.

As for the U.S. military using drones and other precision artillery, as is the ongoing case right now, you will see two things occur. Militia targets being eliminated, innocent civilian casualties. Just as those strikes don't diminish but rather further spur extremist sentiment, something similar would occur in this instance as well.
