ISIS Aims to Occupy Mecca | Newsweek
The recent early morning clash between a Saudi border patrol and extremists trying to enter Saudi Arabia from Iraq appears to be the latest indicator of the Islamic State’s (ISIS) intent to expand its influence and control from its stronghold in Syria and Iraq south into Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the rest of the Arab Gulf where there is oil and what ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and his followers would consider the ultimate prizes: the holy cities of Mecca and Medina.

The armed engagement dovetails with al-Baghdadi’s call for increased attacks inside the Saudi Kingdom. It is likely he realizes that no one can claim to be the Islamic State without controlling the holy sites in and around Mecca and Medina and the wealth that comes with them.
...
Al-Baghdadi’s messages have resonated with Sunnis in the region, North Africa, Europe and the United States primarily because he appears successful. He looks powerful. No amount of warning or counterargument will suffice if he continues to take and hold territory.

From the article:

To help re-instill trust throughout the region and to protect its allies from the instability, the United States, NATO and others should consider providing significant equipment and know-how to shore up the border defenses of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Jordan and others.

More than equipment and know-how is needed. The best chance of eliminating ISIS is if the 3 big powers in the region--Saudi, Turkey, and Iran--can ally together. It's a tall order given centuries of ethnic, political, and religious differences. But ISIS is a threat to them all--Iran, because it's Shia; Saudi Arabia, because it's a monarchy; and Turkey, because it's secular and a NATO member. Like the Godfather said, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. These ISIS cut-throats are running amok in their back yards. It's their problem, even more than ours. I really think they can crush these savages if they're committed and willing to work together.

We are now fighting the Battle of Ar Mageddon, under way since 9/11 when the Euphrates was dry. We are now dropping 100 pound "hailstones" on ISIS, the latest face of the 7th head of the beast.
And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared.

And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame. And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.

And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done. And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great. And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath. And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great.

Why is 9/11s time of when the euphrates dried significant for you again? What about those other times?

It is impossible for the west to provide any sort of protection to Mecca or Medina. The muslim world would explode if we occupied anywhere near the area.. even if we were there to protect it. This is all on Saudi Arabia and whatever muslim country allies they have.

The Saudis have some of the best US military technology, but it's not clear they have the ability to use it.

I concur.

Why would the Saudi's think anybody would dare invade them with the two holiest cities in their borders? They don't even need an army with that sort of leverage. They invade? Boom, muslim Holy war... on other muslims.
