The New York Times International Edition ran a cartoon on Thursday of an apparently blind US President Donald Trump wearing a yarmulke being led by a dog with a Star of David for a collar and the face of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The cartoon was part of its Opinion section and appeared next to a column by Thomas Friedman about immigration.

The cartoon, condemned by numerous people in the last few days, appeared in the April 25 edition and was available in Israel on the weekend edition issued for the seventh day of Passover followed by Shabbat, two days when observant Jews were not active online.

“Another disgusting display of vile antisemitic trope celebrated in The NY Times World. The NY Times is signaling to the world that antisemitism is real, here and welcome,” wrote philanthropist Adam Milstein.

Imam Mohamad Tawhidi condemned the cartoon on social media, saying it was reminiscent of antisemitic Islamist texts comparing Jews and dogs. Others noted that while it had appeared online, it had been removed by Saturday afternoon. The New York Times Opinion Twitter account included an editor’s note that said the cartoon “included antisemitic tropes.”

I get the impression that a lot of folks don't have a problem with anti-Semitism nowadays.
Like these "fine people"?

The New York Times has printed plenty that was far worse. It strikes me as curious that the newspaper, which has shown almost no restraint in its fulminations against Trump, is so timid toward Netanyahu. When are they going to start apologizing for all of the nasty things they've ran about the President? The Times has has held to a virulently anti-Trump line for well over two years and nobody bats an eye, but the moment they say something unflattering about Netanyahu people start losing their minds.

What was anti-semitic about it??? Is it getting to the point that being critical of an Israeli politician is anti-Semitic??? Being critical of Trump isn't anti-Christian. Being critical of Ali Khamenei isn't anti-Muslim. Being critical of Israel isn't anti-Semitic.

Being critical of Judaism or condemning Jews is anti-Semitic.

Well said.

An example of anti-Semitism would be the white supremacists who chanted "Jews will not replace us!"

Ding ding ding! You win the toaster oven!

I'm not sure what I find more disgusting: co-opting anti-Semitism as a political cudgel against Donny's enemies, or whining about imaginary anti-Semitism supposedly emanating from "the left" when young white guys, radicalized by the same "chans" that radicalized the Nazis who marched in Charlottesville, carry out actual attacks against Jewish worshipers in synagogues.

It's missing the forest for the trees, all to satiate the tiny little ego of a narcissistic, thrice married, genital grabbing con man.

(snip)
Well that guy screaming right there is Peter Cytanovic:
The story behind that photo of a screaming white nationalist in Charlottesville
As online commentators have pointed out, Cytanovic’s apparent surprise at being lumped with hate groups is disingenuous. He got in the frame by traveling to a public event for white nationalism, and however he frames his politics, this photo contains clear symbols and actions: A very young man shouting with intense emotion, wearing a polo with the logo of Identity Evropa, a white nationalist group that has been active on college campuses. Even Cytanovic’s torch, although perhaps purchased at a big box housewares store, is a visual reminder of 1930s Nazi rallies, echoed in recent demonstrations by Greece’s rightwing Golden Dawn party.
tulc(was glad to help identify the man in the photo for Gigimo since he seemed so interested)

I must say that was an impression deflection. The image of the white supremacists tulc posted are included in this article: White supremacists carrying torches surround church during alt-right rally.

Deflection of what? They're both hate groups or don't you agree with that?

And I know for sure you're not going to agree with this one but both groups do have the exact same master(s)!!

Speaking of that I wonder why we haven't seen much of ANTIFA lately? (Guess somebody ran out of money to pay them for their services or they aren't needed until 2020 sometime).

We are way past that point now. Anytime people are critical of anything today they have some 'phobia'. ie: Islamaphobic NOT 'anti' Muslim would be the correct term. If they can't tag a phobia on them? Then they of course 'hate' them - which is used also to slow down the debate and conversation.

Anti-Semitic is a old school term. They need to come up with something more catchy and dramatic.

lol Are you saying the New York Times are racists and have something in common with Nazis?
Oh! Sorry my point wasn't more clear: this group (part of the "fine people" President alluded to that were part of "Unite the Right" rally) were marching through town chanting "The Jews will not replace us!" They were some of the people I thought Gigmo was talking about when he said:
I get the impression that a lot of folks don't have a problem with anti-Semitism nowadays.
Sorry that was unclear.
