My soul waits for the Lord

Psalm 130:5 > I wait for the LORD, my soul waits,
And in His word I do hope.
6 > My soul waits for the Lord
More than those who watch for the morning—
Yes, more than those who watch for the morning.

Isn't this speaking of guards, or sentinels, that sat on the wall in those days to keep watch? There was no sleeping on the job! They had to be on the lookout with a very watchful eye. Their ears heard the slightest sound.

Am I seeking the Lord like this? Do I hang on His every Word, as if my life depended on it? Is my inner ear as attentive to the voice of His Spirit to pick up on the gentlest prompting?

My life does depend on it. We get deceived into thinking it doesn't.

I will hope in His Word more than those who watch for the morning.

I guess they just don't know.

I'm sure your question was a rhetorical one, requiring no answer, but I have pondered on that very thing at times.

The Bible says, "Taste and see, that the Lord is good!"

So, we must ask ourselves, am I hanging on His every Word? Do I soak it up daily? Do I ponder on what He says? Do I hold fast, when things are dark? Do I persevere in believing when it looks like it won't come to pass? Do I simply throw in the towel and say, it must not be for me?

Psalm 63:6 When I remember You on my bed,
I meditate on You in the night watches,

This is good at night in bed, and in the night hours of our lives when darkness seems to engulf us. Remember Him. Meditate on Him when you are in darkness, pain, and can't find your way.

Psalm 119:147 I rise before dawn and cry for help;
I wait for Your words.

Not too many are willing to rise before, but oh the blessing for those who do! Wait, like a baby chick for mom to bring her food, wait to hear what the Lord will say, for His words are our food.
