That's given as the main reason. Refuges from crime ridden areas seeking asylum.
So not the wave of criminal, then? But actually poor folks seeking to find a home where they can work hard and build a better life for their kids.

I'm sure there are some wrong 'uns in the mix but the statistics up thread would evidence that an American is more likely to commit a crime than a Mexican.

Along with a whole lot of criminals due to lack of vetting.

Apparently you're not aware that Central and South America consists of more countries than just Mexico. Although most of them flow in though Mexico.

"A series of Cato Institute papers have found that immigrants – including undocumented immigrants – commit murders at a lower rate than native-born Americans."
So unvetted migrant criminals flowing into the US isn't a problem? Like the number domestic murderers we have isn't enough, so we need more pouring in unchecked over the border ?

I already asked, how many more murders due to somebody here illegally?

Illegal Immigrants Have a Low Homicide Conviction Rate: Setting the Record Straight on Illegal Immigrant Crime

"Setting the statistical record straight on illegal immigration and homicide is important, but it is not the whole story. It can’t be when it comes to homicide or any serious crime. The recent arrest of Jose Antonio Ibarra for the murder of Laken Riley, a student at the University of Georgia, is a brutal reminder that statistics can only inform generally. They can’t tell us much about individual cases. Ibarra crossed the border illegally and was granted parole.

Few people are murderers, and illegal immigrants are statistically less likely to be murderers. Still, some illegal immigrants do commit homicide, and that statistical fact is no comfort to victims and their families. More importantly, nobody should expect the statistics to comfort individuals affected by violent crime. Murderers should be arrested, tried, convicted, and punished to the fullest extent of the law, regardless of their immigration status. At the same time, we should understand that more enforcement of immigration laws will not reduce homicide rates."

Right, they're fleeing from crime infested areas. But we're supposed to believe it's only the victims and not any of all those criminals pouring into the US.
Why would you believe anything as stupid as that? Nobody is trying to make you.

You just called a lot of people on the left stupid. And if it's not true, then they aren't really refugees, just invaders.

Nobody on the left has seriously asserted that there are not any criminals among the asylum seekers and you know it. And while we are on the subject of accuracy, you should be aware that "refugees" are a separate legal category distinct from asylum seekers.

That's not what I said. I said the left keeps saying they are pouring into the US to get away from the criminal infestation in their homeland. But it's wrong to say that any of those coming in from areas infested with criminals are criminals.

Explain the distinct difference.

or political persecution, environmental catastrophe, etc. or a combination thereof.
But it's wrong to say that any of those coming in from areas infested with criminals are criminals.
Who says so? It's certainly wrong to brand them all as criminals.
Explain the distinct difference.

The main difference is that refugee status may be granted to a person outside the country. One must be actually in the country to claim asylum.
