These people never turn down an opportunity to anger more people.

Michigan has an existing state law that punishes anal sex with up to a 15-year sentence in prison. However, the U.S. Supreme Court decided in the landmark 2003 case Lawrence v. Texas that laws against sodomy are unconstitutional, invalidating them in 13 states. The legislature insists that the law doesn’t target gay people but claims that it applies to both same-sex and heterosexual couples. It reads in part, “the abominable and detestable crime against nature with mankind or with any animal.” Because the law uses the word “mankind” many suspect that it reaffirms the sodomy laws that are already on the books.

This is a useless gesture given that the SC already deemed laws like this unconstitutional. They know it will be struck down and are doing it only for show, using the peoples time and money to get an at a boy from their constituents.

How many of them are the very one's who are drinking bottled water out of necessity? There is a reason why someone coined the term chose your battles, well and I think this was a loose/loose for the republicans.

In a state in so much trouble they throw a bone to the religious right that has all the staying power of a table tennis ball in a hurricane and walk away as if they accomplished something. Meanwhile the remaining people of that state, who care nothing about the gay issue are left with nothing but a feeling that they are being ignored while these guys dance around thinking that they are saving something.

This Cloistered mentality is going to be the ruin of their party.

People are making a much bigger deal of this then it deserves. The law as exists currently conflates sodomy and inappropriate behavior with animals. They wanted to change some of the language involving inappropriate behavior with animals, but were afraid to touch the sodomy portion because it was a political hot potato, never mind that it isn't enforceable.

They make laws. They are paid to do the tough stuff so that the society they control with these laws can function.

If they are afraid of doing their job because to would be uncomfortable then they should step down and be replaced by people bold enough to do the right thing. I don't really care what side says what but this sideshow antics of these politicians needs to end.

If someone is against sodomy then let them stand up and say so. If not, then let him say so. Let their constituents know where they stand and what they stand for.

Bottom line is a bill passed that had language in it that makes certain forms of sex, usually attributable to Homosexuals, illegal and in the present situation to be ambivalent on such a bill is to fail as a statesmen in more ways than one. This is why Trump and Sanders are making so much headway. The run of the mill politicians are running scared from fear ans anxiety, when the people who ut them in their office look on in disgust.

Meanwhile they are failing as well on the water issue, so what have they actually accomplished except angering peopl.

The title is somewhat misleading. The senator wants to protect animals, but if he cleans up the bill to not prohibit sodomy between humans, the idiots will have a hissy, and his bill goes into the dumpster.

The problem isn't his bill, it's that we've elected so many idiots.
