Florida Man Ordered by City to Keep BBQ Smell From Leaving His Property

“Youre allowed to have it smell on your property, so that doesnt count, but when Im on the street, thats when it counts”

A Florida man was confronted by a county environmental specialist this week and absurdly ordered to keep the smell of his BBQ from leaving his property.

there is a few curse words used in this video so if needed moderate this thread

Am I the only one noticing that a lot of these kind of stories originate in Florida?
No. If you ever use sites like Fark you'll find they have a tag just for Florida, for the very reason you noted.

Is there something in the water??---Maybe we shouldn't eat their oranges anymore.
Does this include other smells as well--or just BBQ?? He better make sure he only farts behind closed doors--several of them. We pray our dog only farts outdoors, glad I don't live in Florida.

Sure, keeping your BBQ smells on your property may be impossible, but maybe that says something about the desirability of bbqing near other people.

I for one don't really appreciate the smell of burned pig corpses (or worse: fish. Oh god the stench of fish on the bbq). If it happens once or twice per year: OK, that's the price of living in a society (im sure I also annoy my neighbours occasionally). But if someone is gassing my house every day, i'm glad that it's technically illegal so i could call the cops.

I don't get it. So can people call the cops, and be told that mowing their grass is illegal because the smell of grass travels too? My daughter has troubles due to allergies, but I would never in a million years call the police over it. I'm also not sure how they could keep the smell on their yards either.

So, unacceptable language is the problem you see here?

I would make myself clear that I find the circumstance unacceptable.

I would also go to the next town/city meeting, and ask for clarification on the law.

The silly law is the problem, and the language does nothing to remedy the circumstance...nor does it help anything.

The reason that a disproportionate number of nutty stories seem to originate in Florida is that Florida has the most comprehensive set of sunshine laws in the U.S., which is to say that all of the other 49 states have just as many nutters, only you don't hear about them.

It doesn't do anything to the situation, one way or the other. It's merely an expression of the guy's shock/frustration over the whole thing. And, it's not like the video is chock full of invectives and incendiary language from beginning to end. It was 2 or 3 times throughout the 5 minute video. That was all. I'd probably react the same way.
