Received an email from Senator Santorum about Belmont College (a small, private, Catholic college) and the fact that the talk about respecting Catholic conscience is just that. The actuality are plans to erase respect for conscience from health insurance and law in general.

Seems the Catholic college (for about 130 years) was looking over their health care plan and found 3 non-Catholic ideas (abortion, contraception, and voluntary sterilization). They removed them (naturally) and were then slapped with a discrimination lawsuit.

Looked it up on the web. The story is carried:

Oh, they have said that they will sooner close the school than to be forced to embrace non-Catholic ideals and have had to hire the Becket Foundation for Religious Freedom to defend them,

Filing a lawsuit and winning a lawsuit are two different things.

Anyone can file a lawsuit if they can find a lawyer to represent him.

But former Senator Santorum has a soapbox to stand on, and will try to pretend it's a done deal before it even leaves the gate.

I see the USA as primarily a Protestant country and as they go down the tubes so they will want to take everyone else with them.

I don't understand-- how can a government make a private college "do" anything? They are state-supported-- not to mention they are religiously affiliated. That sorta makes me mad. I'm sure if it was a Protestant college that probably wouldn't have happened, even though many conservative Protestant schools-- such as those which are Baptist and Pentecostal-- often agree with the Catholic church on principles of morality.
