I just know that there will be a commercial or military/black project application for this. Such an effort of multi-country cooperation and funding for the most expensive experiment in history just to satisfy the intellectual curiosity of a few cosmologists and scientists just doesn't add up. Whatever it is really for, it can be sold for money or it will give the owners power, and lots of it.
