But the problem is, based on your premise, that movies, books, a person speaking to you, music, sermons, poetry, events that you - anything - directly affects a child's behavior.
Everything affects your behavior, it merely depends on how much or little and for how long or short.
I
f you believe that movies can change a child into a inappropriate content and drug consuming fiend, then what of the influence of books, parents' prejudices, sermons, abuse in the name of "loving discipline", and the Bible on the said child?
I don't believe one movie can, I believe a constant watching of perverse movies and looking at inappropriate contentographic material can change a person into a inappropriate content-watching, drug-consuming fiend, however. And as always, there is the potential for everything to be used for something ill. This has been proven whether it's done by atheists or by pastors that some people just will harm you. However, merely because a "messenger" (I use strict quotes for that) claims that God said for you to do thus does not mean He actually did, as has been demonstrated by some Christians throughout history.
The Bible has told people to kill in the name of God. The Bible, according to some folks who interpret it that, sanctions the stoning of homosexuals, adulteresses, people who don't believe in God and even children who disobey their parents.
No, the Bible did not tell people to kill in the name of God. The Bible said that God personally TOLD the Israelites Himself to kill people. There's a big difference between killing in the name of X and being told to kill by X.
By the way, "oral holocaust" is really, really disrespectful of that actual event called the Holocaust. I know you are trying to make a point, but there is no comparison between what happened to the Jewish people in Europe then and the way rap music is affecting young people today.
The word holocaust means a "great act of destruction or a great loss of life" just like the word "massacre" however, nobody seems to have a problem with using that word, despite there being PLENTY of massacres throughout history. But from now on, I won't use it in this dialogue.
Do you think for a moment those poor kids who are brainwashed in the Muslim madrassas, or who are paraded around by their parents with toy bomb vests know what in the heck is going on? The fact is that it starts somewhere. The hatred, the isolation from other people who are not of your faith, the misinformation and the worship of leaders who are abusing the trust of the faithful.
No, they probably don't know why they are doing what they are doing. However, there's an immense difference between these Christians and those Muslims. Islam endorses the slaughtering of infidels, while Christianity does not. Christianity teaches to love your enemy while Islam teaches to slaughter them.
The reason God ordered the deaths of those in the land of Canaan was because they were a dangerous, barbaric, and vehemently pagan culture that practiced child sacrifice, the worshiping of false deities, homosexuality, all the sins. These cultures were dangerous to the Israelites not only physically, but also because there was a chance of the cultures mixing and polluting not only the Jewish way of life, given to them by God, but also threatening the coming of the Messiah through the Jews.
"Kill People Who Don't Listen to Priests
Priests were direct servants from God. To disobey a priest ordained by the Lord is to disobey God Himself and that is a very serious offense.
Witches were known for the demonic practices, specifically, conjuring up "spirits" as is most famous in the "Witch of Endor" in 1 Samuel. Again, this was an evil practice which God did not want polluting Jewish society.
Again, this was a perverse practice that destroys society. It was evident in Sodom and Gomorrah (and the neighboring cities).
There is no account on record for anyone being put to death for cursing their parents. This law was put in place to show the seriousness that God has for obedience towards parents.
False prophets are known for leading people astray. God takes it very seriously whenever someone speaks using His Holy Name that was not anointed by Him. False prophets are dangerous, as they lead many people astray and some ultimately to their damnation.
Death for Adultery
Death for Fornication
Such acts were known for destroying families, and would have, had the practices not been given strict laws against them, destroyed society. I'm sorry to sound like a broken record, but that is just the way it is.
Kill Followers of Other Religions.
Kill the Entire Town if One Person Worships Another God
Notice that it said that if that one person leads the town's citizens astray, the whole town was to be destroyed. And worshiping false gods, specifically, the gods of the Canaanite which practiced what I listed above, was a detestable act to the Lord.
Kill Women Who Are Not Virgins On Their Wedding Night)
Not only did the virgins lie, but they lied to their family, to their fiance, to their friends, and most importantly, they lied to God (as marriage is a sacred act). Such an act of dishonor tore apart families.
Blaspheming against the Lord is a terrible sin. That's all there is to it. Speaking against the Lord was a detestable act not only because it was sinful, but because it encouraged others to do likewise. Leading others astray, I believe, is something we already covered.
God had told them that homosexuality was a SIN, meaning, it could lead to one's damnation. He warned them countless times to change, but they did not, knowing full well the penalty for those acts. Maybe they did not receive a punishment in this life, but they will in the next.
Kill People for Working on the Sabbath
Isn't it sad that God had to make a law, telling people to NOT work on the Sabbath? Also, the seventh day was a Holy day, set apart by God for resting.
I've read through the rest of them and basically I've been saying the same concept over and over again. God is the Creator of the Universe, the Ultimate Authority on morality. It is He and He Alone that decides what is right and wrong. Surely, you have heard the verse "The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life"? All sin is deserving of death. This is justice, but God provided a way so that we might be saved of death. The sacrifices and the priests were symbolic of Christ's sacrifice.
Also, God is the One who institutes the laws. All of the practices listed were either evil or acts of disobedience. Their deaths were on their own heads for disobeying a clearly given order from God. This is not something I made but, it's just the way it is.
