FORT WORTH - It appears to be a battle of faiths after a priest of a small Catholic church and a Jehovah's Witness got into an altercation in Fort Worth.

The Jehovah's Witness has accused Father John Parnell, a priest at the St. Augustine Mexican Catholic Church in Fort Worth, of assaulting him after he knocked on Parnell's door. However, Parnell said it was he who was attacked.

"So, the man comes in and tells my daughter right off, he says, 'You are going to be burned into the eternal fires of Gehenna if you don't listen to what I say,'" Parnell said.

The priest said that was the match that lit the fuse. He said he is tired of Jehovah's Witnesses coming into the St. Augustine church, which is not affiliated with the Fort Worth Diocese.

He said Jehovah's Witnesses came into the church on Easter Sunday during Mass.

"They walked right in and started handing out literature while people are sitting on the pews," Parnell said.

When Jehovah's Witnesses recently came to his door, Parnell said he attempted to escort them out after one of the men allegedly knocked his Bible to the floor.

"He said, 'This place is teaching lies and I am here to bring you the truth,'" he said.

Parnell said the men then dragged him down the street and beat him.

Wow! The Jehovah's Witnesses went right into a church during a service and interpreted a mass? Now that is just wrong. I don't like either religion, but they should be allowed to practice it in peace.

We have JW's come through where I live about once a month. One the ladies has stop trying to convert me, now when she comes by we'll have coffee and chat about our kids and such for half an hour.

Most JW's have been very polite. I inform them from the beginning to keep their literature as I'll trash it without reading. We have a JW relative, she's sweet as pie and breaks a few "rules" to spend time with family on certain holidays. I inform them that I am a Christian, but that my theology does not agree with theirs and they go merrily on their way.

That said, I have had one older woman get irate with me when she wanted to debate and I was able to respond with Greek and translational facts, then pulled Scriptures for her. She got mad, went off on me, and stormed off.

#1:Interupting anyones services is wrong.

#2: the proper way to expose someone to your religion, in a non-aggressive, friendly manner. So that when you leave, the person is happy to have spent time with someone even if they aren't religiously changed.
some reap, some sow. But we should never burn the field.

I agree, most JW are very polite. Just some people in every religion go to far.

The priest has a daughter?
I think it says in the article, his church has no ties:
, which is not affiliated with the Fort Worth Diocese.

The priest has a daughter?

After trying to find some information on this church, it appears they are either part of some Catholic-derived splinter group, or are Old Catholics. The other option is that they are an Anglican Use parish in communion with Rome, or perhaps they are Eastern Rite. However, with a name like "Mexican Catholic Church" I doubt it.

So, my guess is that they are probably Old Catholics, which is a group that split from the Catholic Church in 1871 over the issue of papal infallibility.

Edit: Researching it a bit more, I am almost positive they are Old Catholics.
