Should we tear it down? The message on this famous American image reads:
The recent barrage of emails in my inbox, many from fellow Christians, call for the deportation of hundreds of thousands of of the "wretched refuse" that have come here from mainly Mexican and Cuban shores.
How can we support this and also keep the Statue of Liberty? Or maybe, we should just scratch out the inscription? If not, then why not?
Give me your tired, your poor
Your huddled masses, yearning to breathe free.
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest – tost to me.
I lift my lamp beside the golden door.
