American "exceptionalism"

American exceptionalism refers to the theory that the United States is qualitatively different from other countries. In this view, America's exceptionalism stems from its emergence from a revolution, becoming "the first new nation," and developing a uniquely American ideology, based on liberty, egalitarianism, individualism, populism and laissez-faire ..... Historian Gordon Wood has argued, "Our beliefs in liberty, equality, constitutionalism, and the well-being of ordinary people came out of the Revolutionary era. So too did our idea that we Americans are a special people with a special destiny to lead the world toward liberty and democracy."

..... Although the term does not necessarily imply superiority, many neoconservative and American conservative writers have promoted its use in that sense. To them, the United States is like the biblical "shining city on a hill," and exempt from historical forces that have affected other countries.

Since the 1960s "postnationalist" scholars on the left have rejected American exceptionalism, arguing that the United States had not broken from European history, and has retained class inequities, imperialism and war. Furthermore, they saw every nation as subscribing to some form of exceptionalism.

Recorded history is replete with one "exceptional" nation/empire after another attempting to justify its temporary "superiority" over its neighbors.

One unfortunate result of adopting the notion of "exceptionalism" is that it undermines that nation's ability to learn and adapt ideas from other nations.

"According to the Department of Finance (Canada), two small regional banks failed in the mid-1980s, the only such failures since 1923, which is the year Home Bank failed. There were no bank failures during the Great Depression compared to 9000+ in the US.

Banking in Canada - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Case in point:
America prides itself on its capitalistic prowess, and yet the World Economic Forum's annual “Global Competitiveness Report” ranked the Canadian banking system 1st in the world in 2009 - as compared to its America counterpart that ranked 108th.

The Canadian banking system has experienced only 3 bank failures since 1923, while American banks suffered 9000+ failures during the Great Depression alone.

From 2008 to April 13th 2012, there have been a total of 427 US bank failures - 2008 (25), 2009 (140), 2010 (157), 2011 (92), 2012 (13).

Conclusion: Is their anything America could possibly learn and adapt from the successes of the Canadian banking system - when you consider yourself "exceptional," apparently not!

Salvation does not come from race, bloodline, DNA.

Salvation no, generally speaking, but the 'firstfruits' will be comprised of Israelites, as his favored and chosen people.
