Hi all

For those of us with Chromebooks we're fast approaching the OS's end of life come June 2022.

I am struggling to find an easy way to install an alternative OS to Google's Chromium similar to what I was able to do when my Win 7 laptop was changed over to Neverware's Cloud Ready (who has since been bought by Google).

My dilemma is that we have two otherwise perfectly working Chromebook devices which will no longer receive security patches come June. It would grieve me greatly to have to buy any new devices as a result.

Aside from Cloudready (whose website stated that they cannot install on Chromebooks) - can anyone link to a website which takes you through installing an alternative OS.

Many thanks

Since ChromeOS (and Android) are Linux OSes, any other flavor of Linux should work. I'd recommend Linux Mint (my preference is for their lightweight XFCE edition), since it's the easiest to use:

Home - Linux Mint
Documentation - Linux Mint

And here's a guide for installing it on a Chromebook:

If you need help, you can search/ask for it on the Mint forums:

Of course, it goes without saying, backup your data first.
