Look, the writers of Genesis believed in a flat earth.
They believed the earth sat on pillars.
They believed below the earth was the great deep.
They believe the sun and planets revolved around the earth while the earth sat still.
They believe the sky was solid and it held back waters above the earth.
Now please take this into account, and given the fact, these people no doubt didn't know North America, South America, Australia, etc even existed.
It is remotely possible a regional local flood would be perceived by such persons as a "global" flood?
What they thought was a global catastrophe was in reality only regional or local?
Or maybe they knew it was local and regional, because the word for mountain in Hebrew "Har" also means hills and hilly country.
The Hebrew word for earth is "erets" which has several definitions which include "country", "region", "land", etc.
