Are there situations where God overlooks disobedience?
  • What about the overweight single mother of three children, who, as she's nursing her broken heart, gains another 30 pounds? (Put a knife to your throat if you're given to gluttony...Proverbs 23:2) Or any other glutton...
  • The man with the anger issues who, alone in his car, verbally abuses every driver who crosses his path? (Do not let any unwholesome or corruptive talk come out of your mouths...Ephesians 4:29)
  • What about the church-goer who never passes up an opportunity to malign and criticize the President of the United States? (Petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—for kings and all those in authority…I Timothy 2:1-2); (Show proper respect to everyone…fear God, honor the emperor. I Peter 2:17)
  • The person who is able but doesn't go to church, but prays and studies the Bible? (Forsake not the assembling of ourselves together…Hebrews 10:25)
At what point does grace not cover such things as berating the President or being gluttonous?

I heard a pastor one time say that the church is full of hypocrites. So actually, we should all be at home there.

Repentance is used often up here on the mountain top. Painful at times although very cleansing.

The Lord's goal is to lead us to repentance. He just wants us to be happy, but we can't be happy while we're sinning. If he can get us to repent of our sin without disciplining us, he won't discipline us.

Do you have scripture for that?

Grace covers a multitude of sins, all sins except blashphemy against the Holy Spirit. Of course, one would have to repent to be forgiven. Peace in Christ:).

Depends... His great mercy, compasssion, and love would make it seem like He does or might sometimes, in certain cases, or for certain reasons maybe, certain things that maybe, only He can know... Depends... Also, what disobedience is, going against the law, going against your conscience, or if you have no law, and your conscience does not convict you... Depends...

I don't think were meant to know this, or we would confuse God's overlooking a thing, or passing over a thing, or excusing a thing, for permitting a thing, and those are not supposed to be the same...

God Bless!

the church-goer who never passes up an opportunity to malign and criticize the President of the United States?

"God resists the proud,
.But gives grace to the humble"
. . . . . . (in James 4:6 and in 1 Peter 5:5)

Such behaviors can be in reaction to how God is resisting the person. So, they possibly can mean they are not getting away with something else.

In the Bible, possibly, you know of cases in which someone did not get away with something, and the person sinned in reaction. Possibly, Cain murdering Abel is an example of this.

Everyone dies...and then they find out how God has felt about their sin.

I thought the cross was necessary for grace.
But every one of us needs that grace. If God was in the business of simply excusing bad things that we do, or our failure to do good things, why send the Son to die on the cross to pay our sin debts at all? Why not excuse our sins without going through all that?

Three murderers wrote most of the Bible.....grace covered their sins. I’m sure Grace will cover some poor soul who eats too much pie.

The wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). That penalty for our sin must be paid for.

Why must sins be paid for? Why can't God just forgive and forget them?

Sins must be paid for because sin is breaking the law of God and if God ignores his own Law then he would be approving of sin. To ignore his own law would be to contradict his holy character from which the Law is derived. But, God cannot ignore his own holy character (1 Peter 1:16). Therefore, the Law must be upheld and carried out along with the punishments it contains. In Christianity, the punishment is taken care of one of two ways, by Jesus on the cross or by the unbeliever in hell forever. Either way, the law is satisfied.

It was What God needed and what the wicked angels demanded, Jesus doing what he did, ended it/that, and justified God completely, so God could now turn around and through his Son, save us afterward, since all God's enemies and ours, were silenced (defeated)...

No longer under Law but Grace... God could deal with us differently after that, which was his plan all along... To his and his Son's glory...

God Bless!

If that person's sins are, indeed, covered by the blood of Jesus.
