Have you ever made any origami? Mountain folds, valley folds, flip this, fold that, pinch this, bend that...It's really interesting, actually. A quick search of the web will show you what kinds of beautiful animals you can make with just a few squares of paper. From ornate beetles to beautiful dragons, from noble unicorns, to humble horses; it really is amazing. Hours of work go into these fragile little pieces of paper; and only true masters produce the sort of origami that is really more fun to look at than to make.
Friend, are you and I origami? Throughout our lives, we are bent low in humility, raised up in mercy, pressed in on all sides, and made to suffer all the slings and arrows mortality has to toss at us: all of this while cleaving to the unseen hope offered in Christ Jesus. I'd like to encourage you, today, that whatever trials you may face today, God's plan for your life will not fail. For our Paper-Master is not a mere human, who is prone to all forms of weakness, but rather the God who forged all heaven and earth in accordance with His will. Sometimes He may lean hard upon an undesirable fold, but still our God is with us, even in such times of tribulation. Throughout the course of our lives God is always folding us into something beautiful; but as with any piece of origami, you will never see your true beauty until you're brought to completion. The best you can hope for in this life is to vaguely resemble that which is to come; to be recognizable as one thing or another. It is not until the very last fold is flattened, and the final crease sealed with the loving touch of Jesus Christ at the day of our resurrection, that our true selves will be made fully known to us.
As Scripture teaches, "We are often troubled, but not crushed; sometimes in doubt, but never in despair; there are many enemies, but we are never without a friend; and though badly hurt at times, we are not destroyed." (2 Corinthians 4:8-9)
May the Lord God fold you to what He'd have you be;
Caleb
