Starting with material others think convincing is a poor way to form your own views. Starting to study biology would be better. A standard college textbook would be a fair starting point. With enough preparation you can begin to weigh the evidence for yourself.

If you actually want to learn, instead of internet arguments, the best way I've found is either a real university course, or the cheaper route of getting one of these convenient and interesting courses (below). I listen to them in my car on my commute - it's a great way to learn. : )

Note- these courses have a weird pricing structure, where the prices are high unless on sale, and then very cheap, and the sales rotate quickly so all courses are on sale soon. Basically, only buy when on sale. If a course you like isn't on sale yet, wait a month or two and it will be.

Atheist and Theistic Evolutionists alike,

I'm looking for study material on the theory of evolution. What are the most convincing materials (books, papers, videos, etc.) for evolution that you know of?
You could start by typing 'evolution' into Google and reading what the Wikipedia account has to say.
If you want or need to believe in a God then the study of evolution is not for you, there is no magic or miracles in evolution just plain simple facts, for evolution the supernatural does not exist because evolution can not read people's minds and the supernatural starts and ends in the minds of people.

Just a small caveat, there is now a belief system call theistic evolution as exemplified by Francis Collins' BioLogos. It combines god and evolution. I guess it's (a little) better than ID or Creationism.

Wouldn't it be better to start with the observational evidence and then work backwards, instead of ignoring it and trying to work in reverse?????

You got an entire world of direct empirical observational study material right before your eyes.

You have an entire world of dirt and bones.

Are you saying the same Author did not pen both the Word and the Works????

But of course you didn't read the link - and so incorrectly assumed my stance to begin with.

It's called Christianity, most Christians accept evolution to be the method by which everything came to be as it is,
how they fit a God into it you will need to ask them.

Christians that ignore the observational evidence accept evolution, as those claiming to follow science that accept evolution ignore the evidence.
It's strange how evolution works just fine for them, could it be your dogma that's causing you the problems? or could it be you just don't want to accept the evidence, more people accept evolution than don't because it works, just ask the drug manufacturers who are fighting against nasty things that are evolving before their very eyes.

Um, this view is not new. It's consistent with an approach taken for centuries by Christians, as exemplified in the book of Hebrews, 1:3. Since Darwin proposed natural selection - and even before that in response to other forms of evolution (such as larmarckian evolution), many Christians saw them as the way that God worked. That's Theistic Evolution. The Biologos site is a great source for this view.

It doesn't just "combine God and evolution", but points out that God was there all along, and that evolution is how He created.

I guess it's (a little) better than ID or Creationism.

It's worlds better. It doesn't deny any evidence, and is completely consistent with all the findings of science. Many scientists hold that view.

It's called Christianity, most Christians accept evolution to be the method by which everything came to be as it is,
how they fit a God into it you will need to ask them.

Minor point - it appears that in America, it's pretty closely split 50/50 among Christians. The most recent data has 33% of Americans as creationists, so that would have 33 out of 70% who are Christian being creationists. With so many people leaving Christianity every day, it seems possible that in the future, most Christians might be creationists - but the number of creationists is dropping too, so if it drops faster than the number of Christians, then it could go the other way.

http://www.pewforum.org/2013/12/30/publics-views-on-human-evolution/

It's also worth noting that it varies a lot by type of Christian. Evangelicals, for instance, are very strongly creationist, while mainline protestants (Lutheran, Presbyterian, etc.) strongly support theistic evolution.

This disputes "most Christians accept evolution" theistic or otherwise. I'd be willing to look at data showing the above wrong.

That's cute.

Split the Protestants up into MAINLINE, HISTORICAL BLACK, and EVANGELICAL.

Science at its best.

Why does that dispute it? Catholics and mainline protestants combined outnumber evangelicals and black protestants in the US (at least according to Pew). And of course, most Christians are not Americans.
