The death penalty can end up as state sanctioned murder. Good for Delaware in this halting until their SC can decide.
Delaware made news years ago when they hanged a double murderer. I wonder if that is still a capital punishment option there? Or if it is just the lethal injection?

Delaware's making news on Constitutional issues yet again. I hope they abolish the DP in that state. Ideally in all states that currently have the DP.
It's high time we abolish this barbaric practice that does nothing but satisfy our lust for blood and vengeance.

No, that was only an option if the inmate was convicted prior to a certain date which there are no longer any inmates that qualify for that option from what I saw/ read/ understood.

I think the death penalty should be abolished due to the fact that when just one inmate on death row is exonerated through DNA testing or other means after conviction, that the state then stands to be a murderer of others just like them. And who aren't as lucky to have had that opportunity to be set free.

When an innocent is convicted and executed the state is a murderer. And everyone responsible is accomplice.

The DP should be replaced by a life sentence. This way appeals , which need to be reformed in the process as well being that once all appeals are exhausted all evidence can be destroyed, can still go forward and there's a chance to save the wrongly convicted. Because they're alive!

Luke 23:39-43. Yeshua told the one thief who said he deserved his punishment, that he would be with Yeshua in Heaven that day. The other he did not say that to. One called his name, and recieved his due punishment, the other recieved his punishment but did not call his name. Matthew 5:17 says Yeshua did not come to abolish the laws, but to fulfill them. Did Yeshua say to either one of them that they should not be on the crosses they were on?

this assumes both are actually guilty. we have seen far too many cases of an innocent man being convicted. we can always release the wrongfully convicted, no so with those who are put to death.

So you support the death penality as a punishment for stealing?

Actually, removing the death penalty isn't even going to eliminate most of the deaths that occur within the criminal justice system...typically when someone gets killed from inside the correction system, it's at the hands of another inmate, not the state. (or in many cases, by their own hand)

The suicide rate among inmates is 42 per 100,000
The homicide rate among inmates in local facilities is 5.4 per 100,000
And in state facilities, that number is 3.1 per 100,000
(couldn't find reliable federal stats)

It costs more to keep an inmate on death row due to the appeals and special security housing those inmates receive, than it does to keep them incarcerated for life. And while also entitled to appeal.
Therefore, what is the real purpose of prosecuting a death penalty?

BTW, of all capital punishment states Delaware ranks at #3 in executions.
