As those under the covenant of "the sure mercies of David" and his house and throne, it is helpful to look to his writings under the Anointing to guide us in these matters. The word enemies appears 80X in the Psalms.

Genesis 1:1 (KJV)

For example,

Psalm 89:

50 Remember, Lord, the reproach of Your servants—
How I bear in my bosom the reproach of all the many peoples,

51 With which Your enemies have reproached, O Lord,
With which they have reproached the footsteps of Your anointed.

52 Blessed be the Lord forevermore!
Amen and Amen.

One lovely proverb uses the word enemies:

Proverbs 16:7 When a man's ways please the LORD,

he makes even his enemies be at peace with him.

Enemy appears an additional 25X in the Psalms

Genesis 1:1 (KJV)

A lovely prayer:

Psalm 64:

1
Hear my voice, O God, in my meditation;
Preserve my life from fear of the enemy.
2 Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked,
From the rebellion of the workers of iniquity,

A proverb quoted by Paul in Romans 12

Proverbs 25:

21 If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat;
And if he is thirsty, give him water to drink;
22 For so you will heap coals of fire on his head,
And the Lord will reward you.

Wise advice

Proverbs 24:

17 Do not rejoice when your enemy falls,
And do not let your heart be glad when he stumbles;
18 Lest the Lord see it, and it displease Him,
And He turn away His wrath from him.

I should include v. 16 for encouragement

16 For a righteous man may fall seven times
And rise again,
But the wicked shall fall by calamity.

Hope this was helpful.

I tend to be a bit didactic when it comes to God's Word

We don't make friends of our enemies. We don't invite criminals over for dinner. But we remain like God in all circumstances, whether with an enemy or with a friend.

It's critically important that we recognize an enemy as an enemy. We should harbor no illusions. But how we treat them depends on whether God wants us to treat them as *His enemy.* Even more important is our need to answer this question: What does God want us to do about it?

Psalm 137:1 By the rivers of Babylon,
There we sat down and wept,
When we remembered Zion.
2 Upon the willows in the midst of it
We hung our harps.
3 For there our captors demanded of us songs,
And our tormentors mirth, saying,
“Sing us one of the songs of Zion.”
4 How can we sing the Lord’s song
In a foreign land?
5 If I forget you, O Jerusalem,
May my right hand forget her skill.
6 May my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth
If I do not remember you,
If I do not exalt Jerusalem
Above my chief joy.
7 Remember, O Lord, against the sons of Edom
The day of Jerusalem,
Who said, “Raze it, raze it
To its very foundation.”
8 O daughter of Babylon, you devastated one,
How blessed will be the one who repays you
With the recompense with which you have repaid us.
9 How blessed will be the one who seizes and dashes your little ones
Against the rock.
