Very pretty poem, D.

They're not nearly as fantastic as the Greek myths.
Well then, not so nearly unbelievable. ^_^
How do I know that this was done meticulously? My rabbi told me.
Are you now Jewish?
There is quite a good breakdown of this in the CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Old Testament

The Hebrew Massoretic text, is the clue. Enjoy learning nee stuff.
Is that a Monty Python and the Holy Grail reference?
Don't tempt the Dragon.
AV is only a pretend dragon.
Actually, I was thinking the same thing about you.
English had not yet evolved.
Let me know when you have changed his mind on this matter.
My rabbi said something equally puzzling, that God gave the first alphabet.
Did it arrive on wooden blocks?

alphabet-blocks-psd-435720.png

Have you ever studied Hebrew? Or, language origins?
No, my studies only go back to COBOL.

So are the scientists - that's why there's research and experimentation going on.

Are you (and Doveaman) saying that dark matter / dark energy may somehow relate to Genesis 1:2? namely ' The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep,....'

'It is an embarrassing time to be a cosmologist. Only a couple of decades ago, we thought we understood the substances that fill the universe. No more. We now know that the atoms making up everything visible in the cosmos - from galaxies to planets to clouds of interstellar gas and dust - represent less than about 20 per cent of the total matter out there. The remaining 80 per cent is mysterious "dark matter", invisible to conventional telescopes. But if we can't see it, how can we be so sure it's there? ....'*

Perhaps somehow indicative of a formless void which the hovering dove wants to fill and mold, into something very good?

Yes, scientists are very good at doing that and then convincing people like you to do the same.
Indeed. From medicines to computers, to landing spacecraft on asteroids, the results of their work can be quite convincing.
I'm still waiting to see some of that dark-matter and dark-energy scientists keep talking about.
There will always be those gaps for the god-of-the-gaps crowd.

Obviously,

Are you now Jewish?

I am not but I studied Hebrew language and culture.

Is that a Monty Python and the Holy Grail reference?

You are confusing a spelling mistake with the Knight that say "Ni"

The Holy Trail is off-topic.

AV is only a pretend dragon.

Careful now, you might just incriminate someone.

Let me know when you have changed his mind on this matter.

Perhaps a break would do you good, too. At least he's trying to stay on topic.

Did it arrive on wooden blocks?

It might be a reference to the giving of the Law, a default position St. Paul alludes to in his letters.

Did you notice the word, is made up of two Hebrew words?

No, my studies only go back to COBOL.

I'm not sure that a computer language will serve you, it's certainly not old enough.

GENESIS 1:1 & 2 from a different angle is the topic here.

This thread is about trying different angles, not recycling the same old stuff.

OR works best when one let's go enough to take on new ideas.
COBOL was new in 59, like the Chevvy was in 1913.

I said nothing of the sort.

It's true - scientists are pretty clueless about what dark matter and dark energy are.

Dark energy is just a placeholder name for whatever it is that's causing the universe to continue expanding at an accelerating rate.

Dark matter is just a placeholder name for whatever accounts for the vast amounts of gravity that there isn't enough ordinary matter to account for.

They're simply called 'dark' because we can't detect them (yet). Your efforts to shove them into a bible verse are very tenuous.

You obviously do not see the ironic side to that. ^_^

Ironic that we can't detect something? Or ironic for hoping that we will?

I know you like to think you're the resident forum comedian, but care to explain?

Big Bang Theory, lesson: It's never that funny when you do. :D

No, we are still in the same boat, your claims to the contrary notwithstanding.

Can you tell us which natural properties of matter lead to life?
Nope. Abiogenesis is an interesting topic but I don't understand the relevance of your question. I'm also wondering which properties of matter are considered to be unnatural.

Yes, thanks for bringing up the subject of Abiogenesis. I haven't really explored it much, but based on this excerpt it seems worthy of closer investigation:

'....In both instances described above, the creationists spreading this misunderstanding are doing so for one of two reasons. The first possibility is that they simply do not understand the nature of evolutionary theory. In not having a clear idea about what evolution is, they mistakenly include ideas which do not belong. This failure to understand the topic sheds some interesting light on their attempts to critique it, however. ....'*
