By the shapes, patterns and designs in it. For instance, if it was a picture of a man on a horse near a tree, you should be able to see the design of a man, a horse and a tree in the picture since each is only recognizable by it's design.shernren said:So basically an element is considered "design" if it is shared and common? Look at it this way: rowboats, canoes, speedboats, tugboats, ferries and ocean liners are all classified as boats because of the common shape and design of their hulls which enables them to float. Because of their common design, we classify them as boats.
Same reason we classify humans and chimps as apes by their design which is recognizably different from, say birds or fish.
