We need it for a fire.
I heard that today and thought just thought I would share it.

More like "Yall (non-Christians) need it to hide behind."

MMmmm, doesn't sound Biblical?

We are suppose to be crucified, but I don't see any believers hanging from a cross!

I know plenty who don't go to the cross, or through it.

It's a long, long race of endurance mate, and perfection is maturity, and we finally arrive at that maturity when we stand before HIM at HIS Judgement Seat.

Blessings.

I'm not sure I'm fully grasping its entire meaning, sorry OP.

It means that someone is being a martyr for selfish reasons, such as trying to make themselves out to be the victim or putting on a "long" face to appear to be making great sacrifices.

The hard thing about interpreting is that Jesus tells us to pick up our cross everyday. If a person is in a state of self-pity and self-mourning, are they really "on the cross?" Cuz if they really were, they'd be dying to that instead.

EDIT: I do get your point though.

Good grief. So that's it.

(Sorry BillynJennifer, missed your post before.)

It's so easy for someone to look at a brother or sister in the next pew and accuse them of self-pity isn't it?

Much easier than actually helping them consistently until they feel so well-loved they no longer need to feel mournful over themselves.

I never thought of it as criticizing someone else.
I was thinking more along the lines of self pity. I never thought this would offend anyone.

Looks like everyone is misinterpreting the meaning. Clearly it's about not pitying yourself. (The cross meaning people are thinking of themselves as martyrs because they feel crucified by the pain of being jobless.) It has nothing to do with spirituality. It's an illustration.
