Trump had the data and information, and he had the scientists who understood it all. He just refused to listen to them.

He could have done the right thing, if he had been so inclined. But he "liked to play it down"

Trump had the data and information,

Do you think that Faucci, Trump and Pelosi were hiding something?

Maybe having that data helps explain this ...

President Trump's 2020 plan included
  • shut down the travel from China ,
  • tell Americans to shelter in place,
  • temporarily shut down the economy to just essential workers,
  • put industry on war-time footing so it would re-tool for PPE production
  • and make massive advancements in vaccine technology
  • Create new therapeutics like the poly-clonal antibodies etc
  • Follow guidelines for zinc, vitamin D etc.

No, he was doing the best he could with the "we're-turning-the-corner!!!"

And so our "Chief Biologist" as President made Faucci say we are not supposed to wear masks?

seriously - you actually believe that?

I just looked at a variety of stories on the current border situation. I'm inclined to believe the OP. As far as I can tell there hasn't been a procedure for testing unauthorized immigrants. The first major change Biden is making is trying to deal with those caught in the "remain in Mexico" policy. He said that the new processes will include Covid precautions. It's reasonable to think that as he creates other new procedures they will as well.

The stories suggest that there's an increase in those being released into the community because Mexico is no longer accepting them back, and the holding facilities are at capacity. I trust that as Biden revamps procedures we'll at least test these people.

And so our "Chief Biologist" as President made Faucci say we are not supposed to wear masks?
What I believe is Trump (as is his wont) used the daily briefings to do what he does: pretend to be someone who knows what he's talking about instead of letting the adults on the stage do their jobs of informing people of the latest information they knew. What I believe is it's amusing watching Trump supporters desperately search around to find other people to blame for Trumps failures.

seriously - you actually believe that?
What I believe is there's over 500,000 people who've died of Coronavirus in the US and Trump swore it was all going to "magically go away!" about a year ago. And then he swore "We're turning the corner!!" so often we seemed to have been running in circles for most of last year.

Less story - more fact please.

Do you really think that all of the democrats that got infected and those that died of the 500k were saying "because President Trump is my chief virologist and biologist"??? seriously?

It is fact that Donald Trump referred to the pandemic as a political hoax.

And everyone gets sick as a product of a failed response. If the government doesn't act efficiently, everyone, democrat and republican, suffers as a result.

The kind of Hoax that caused President Trump to
  • shut down the travel from China ,
  • tell Americans to shelter in place,
  • shut down the economy to just essential workers,
  • put industry on war-time footing so it would re-tool for PPE production
  • and make massive advancements in vaccine technology?

Hm?

Are you doubting what he is saying in his speech?

He openly treated covid as if it were a common cold.

  • temporarily shut down the economy to just essential workers

Yea, after the virus had already taken hold of the country.

It just is what it is. The president failed to properly judge the severity of the virus, and really continued to downplay it, even as scores of Americans died.

His justification for downplaying the danger of the virus was allegedly to prevent panic.

That explains why Faucci said no masks needed?
And explains why Biden said it was wrong to ban travel from China?
And explains why Pelosi wanted everyone to join her without a mask and no social distancing... in Chinatown?

July 13, 2020 we have this

Feb. 29, Pelosi said that "there are no indications of widespread infections in the United States," but the House speaker insisted that she did not underestimate the crisis.

"No, what we did was at that exact time was writing the first COVID bill, which we brought to the floor and passed on March 4, and it was about testing, testing, testing," she said. "Because if you don’t test you don’t have a handle on what the problem is."

When asked whether she had any regrets over her initial response to COVID-19, Pelosi firmly said she had none

At no point did Pelosi say "President Trump is my Chief Biologist so as long as he thinks things are ok - then they are fine"

Fauci isn't leader of the free world. And wasn't making jokes and downplaying the virus.

Yea, after the virus had already taken hold of the country.

Corona virus did not "take over the country" until April/May.

Jan 31 - President Trump bans/restricts travel from China (democrats complain).
Feb 2 - first Covid death outside of China reported.
Feb 24 - Pelosi without a mask , and no social distancing - saying 'come to china town'
Feb 29 - first death of a US COVID patient
March 15 - CDC recommends no large gatherings. so 15 or less allowed.
March/April States issue shelter in place orders

reality.. what a concept

Banning travel from china isn't quite the same as a shutdown for non essential workers.

The truth is that the virus was already spreading in our country even in January.

"different" -- Agreed - but there was not yet even one US death from COVID at the time of the travel shut down. Trump was ahead of the curve - Biden was still complaining that action was being taken early (two weeks later)

  • February 1 – Biden tweets about the CoronaVirus, accusing President Trump of ignoring the science, and acting based on “hysteria, xenophobia, and fear-mongering.”
  • February 1 – Speaking at a campaign town hall in Iowa, Biden brought up the CoronaVirus and says, “we don’t know exactly where it’s going to go yet.” He again implicitly criticized President Trump’s restrictions on travel from China by saying, “Disease has no borders.”
  • February 4: President Trump vowed in his State of the Union Address to “take all necessary steps” to protect Americans from the CoronaVirus–Nancy Pelosi must have hated that promise because she ripped up her copy.
  • February 5: The end of the first annual Democratic Party Impeachment hoax. The Senate votes to acquit President Trump.
  • February 6: Biden Public Health Advisory Committee member Dr. Irwin Redlener said, “Yes, there is uncertainty, and the headlines are dramatic. But right now, the chances of any of us or anyone we know ever getting a severe, potentially lethal form of the Wuhan virus is negligible.”
  • February 7: Biden Public Health Advisory Committee member Lisa Monaco wrote, “The good news thus far is that the CoronaVirus appears to be less lethal than its viral cousin SARS was in 2002 and far less lethal than Ebola was in 2014.”
  • February 7:President Trump tells Bob Woodward, This is Dangerous Stuff.” And the President’ was focusing on the virus. Trump told Woodward that the night before, he’d spoken to Chinese President Xi Jinping about the virus. Woodward quotes Trump as saying, “We’ve got a little bit of an interesting setback with the virus going in China.” “It goes through the air,” Trump said. “That’s always tougher than the touch. You don’t have to touch things. Right? But the air, you just breathe the air, and that’s how it’s passed. And so that’s a very tricky one. That’s a very delicate one. It’s also more deadly than even your strenuous flus.”
  • February 11: The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announces an expanded partnership with Janssen Research & Development to “expedite the development” of a CoronaVirus vaccine.
  • February 11 – Top Biden advisor, now WH Cheif of Staff, Ron Klain said, “A serious epidemic – now, the CoronaVirus may be that, it may not be that. The evidence suggests it’s probably not that.”
  • February 11 – Top Biden advisor Ron Klain spoke about the Trump team’s reaction to the virus saying, “Obviously the administration can’t do nothing. Indeed, they are far from doing nothing.”
  • February 13 – Top Biden advisor Ron Klain said, “We don’t have a COVID-19 epidemic in the U.S., but we are starting to see a fear epidemic. Kudos to [Mayor Bill de Blasio] (and others) for standing against that.” He was encouraging people to go shopping or out to eat in Chinatown.

Shelter in Place orders were State level not Federal - can't blame the President if your lawn is not getting mowed on time etc.

A thread about Biden's non-response to H1N1 Pandemic and his no-COVID-testing-at-borders policy quickly "pivots to" Trump's accomplishments in 2020.

Since this is Biden's term of office - maybe sticking with the topic his giving him his due.

Stopping travel from china is hardly a shutdown.

Stopping travel from china is hardly a shutdown.

democrats complained about it like it was the end of all things important to stop travel from China as if COVID was really that big a deal as compared to Jan/Feb impeachment items.

So then back to the subject of the thread.
