The Warriors of Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High took the field on Friday night without any Bible verses written on the cheerleaders' banner.

Instead, the football team ran through a banner that read "This is Big Red Country" before each bent on a knee to pray on the field of Tommy Cash Stadium.

The spirited display comes after the school district banned the banners last week over concerns they were unconstitutional and could provoke a lawsuit, angering many in the deeply religious north Georgia town of Fort Oglethorpe.

Since the majority of the community who pays to keep the school open and sends their children there want the school to display christian scripture, should be allowed to do so with out a threat of a law suit. The school faculty and the students seems to agree with the scripture that was on display at the games but are being threatened by a single bitter atheist. If a parent is offended by this then there are many other schools he/she can take their children too without ruining it for the majority of the parents who loves the way the school conducts itself. God Bless

Some people simply refuse to see the difference between government expression and individual expression, while others purposefully use government resources to push their religion because they believe the end result is good... the "correct" religion/beliefs are reinforced in peoples minds.

The fact that it might be offensive to those who believe differently and that it is illegal doesn't matter to them. More often than not the will to fight this stuff simply doesn't exist.

That's bull.

It's a public school in America. It has no right to respect an establishment of religion.

Public schools were built on christian principles. In the 1950's a school day began with a prayer and the bible was available to the students. But because of a few atheist we no longer have that right. Today whenever a christian raises his voice he is shot down and called a bigot, rasciest or a hater. Are schools are now filled with violence, drugs, sexual assaults .Today many school are threatened if they display religion they will face a law suit.

That's funny, because that quote my Washington isn't found anywhere in history texts, it is only found on Christian websites. What is even more funny is that Washington was a DEIST, not a Christian.

Even if schools were built on Christian principles, times change. This is not a Christian nation and it should not be promoted as such.

President George Washington was an Episcopalian. He was a member of the Episcopal Church, the American province of the Anglican Communion, which is a branch of christianity and which is usually classified as Protestant. Also the quote is found here (also you can find the quote on many other sites):

Also on the faith of Washington:

Um... there is no law, no court case, and no constitutionally valid regulation against any student praying in school -- except, of course, interrupting a teacher in order to 'pray' aloud as a prank, or something of the sort.

The court decisions (Nyquist and others) ban one thing -- a public prayer or the equivalent, such as a moment of silence, laid down by officials or employees of the government to which students are required to give respect or join in with.

And that right -- the right of anyone to use government to force their beliefs on others -- is one we informed George III and his ministers they no longer had on 4 July 1776. And none of us plan on letting anyone else replace him.

If you think it's a good idea for teachers to lead their students in prayer, how about having Mr. Gutierrez teach them the Hail Mary? Or Mrs. Goldstein the Kaddish. Or maybe Mr. Aboud starting the day with "In the name of Allah the Beneficient the Merciful, there is no God but Allah, and Mohammed is his Prophet."

Frankly, ad sn Anglican, I don't want a Calvinist or a Pentecostal teaching my kids his beliefs as something they ought to follow.

Like I said, those are all CHRISTIAN WEBSITES, they promote christianity, not history. Washington was a member of an Epsicopal Church because his wife was Episcopalian. I have an entire bookcase full of books on American history, three of which are full of speeches that the founding fathers made. I cannot find this particular quote in any of them. Internet searches only come up with Christian websites. While Washington was a member of this church, he did not take communion and was never recognized as a communicant because of this. More often than not, he would leave the church before the services began.

Regardless, it doesn't really matter if Washington said it or not. Washington did not write the Constitution, nor is he here today to provide his insight.

So if the majority of people in your community became embraced Islam, you'd be fine with banners quoting the Koran?

Christian persecution, as in days of old, has begun to become prevalent around the world today, as other religions and faiths exercise intolerance for the belief that claims that only by Christ can one enter into eternity

the Bible clearly states that suffering ill treatment is not only walking in Christ's shoes, but it is also to be expected as the battle lines are drawn and the last days grow ever nearer. In today's American culture of comforts and religious freedoms, perhaps all northern Americans can use a reminder of what Christ taught in order to become more alert, as Christianity slowly becomes a disrespected religion.
