Isaac Newton (1642-1727)

Born on Christmas day 1642, and lived 85 years until 1727. His father died two months before he was born, and his step-father was a rector in a church. He was raised by his grandmother. He was a poor student, until he got into a fight with another boy, and out of jealousy decided to show everyone what he could do, and became the top of his class. At 14 Newton was taken out of school to help out on his mother’s farm. He was not a very good farmhand though, always wasting his time doing mathematics.

He eventually was sent back to school and graduated from Cambridge. In 1665 he discovered the binomial theorem, and differential calculus, which he called "fluxions" In 1666 he left Cambridge due to the plague, and he started to think about gravity and the moon, as well as optics and color. He was elected to the Royal society in 1672 (when he was 30) due to his experiments on color. One of Newton’s key conclusions, "that the length of the band of colors a given distance from a spectrum is the same for a prism of any substance provided the angle was the same" was wrong. This is why Newton thought telescopes were of limited use, because chromatic aberration was uncorrectable. Newton later learned of his mistake from others and after that made some telescopes.

In 1692 Newton had an 18-month attack of insomnia and nervousness. In 1696 John Bernoulli challenged mathematicians to solve two problems within six months. Newton did not see the problems until a few months later, but he solved them the next day, transmitting the papers anonymously. They figured out who it was though. In 1703 he became the president of the Royal Society, and did not discover anything else of importance for the last 24 years of his life.

One time an atheist friend of Newton’s came over and saw this scale model of the solar system that Newton had. He remarked at how beautiful it was and asked who made it. Newton nonchalantly replied that no one did; it just made itself. The atheist asked again, got the same answer, and started to get angry. Newton replied, "if you cannot believe something as simple as this model cannot make itself, how can you believe the heavens made themselves?"

Albert Einstein (1879-1955)

While Einstein was getting his Ph.D., he worked in the patent office, where he was bothered by the Michelson-Morley experiment that implied the speed of light was constant regardless of direction. Ten years later in 1905 he wrote his first paper, on the general theory of relativity, including E = mc2. Later he published his special theory of relativity, primarily dealing with gravity. Einstein extended Planck’s theory of quantum mechanics, but he was against results that appeared to make some natural effects indeterminate. He is famous for his saying, "God does not play dice with the universe"

Albert Einstein supported Zionism but was a non-practicing Jew, a liberal pacifist who wisely left Germany when Hitler came to power. He could not see a universe that was self-created, without God. Yet like many Jews of that time, he was somewhat bitter toward God for allowing the Holocaust. Concerning the view that western religion is the basis for science, Einstein said, "To the Sphere of religion belongs the faith that the regulations valid for the world of existence are rational, that it is comprehensible to reason. I cannot conceive of a genuine scientist without that profound faith. The situation may be expressed by an image: science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind." (Einstein: His Life and Times by Philipp Frank. 1953. p.286) Unfortunately Einstein rejected a personal God, believing instead in the pantheistic God of Benedict Spinoza. He also rejected rewards or punishment in the afterlife.

Most curiously, Einstein put a "fudge factor" in some of his equations so a "Big Bang" origin would not be required, because that would imply a personal God. When others noticed this, he admitted his error and reluctantly concluded that the universe was created. See The Baker Encyclopedia of Christian Apologetics by Norm Geisler p.213-215 for more info

Charles B. Thaxton (living)

Professor Rejer Hooykas was a Dutch historian of science who wrote of the profound impact Christianity has had on the rise of modern science. Thaxton was greatly influenced by him at Harvard in 1971.

With Walter L. Bradley and Clarence Meninga, they authored, The Mystery of Life’s Origin : Reassessing Current Theories in 1984. In this book they show how temperature, sunlight, and estimated early atmospheric oxygen (0.2 to 0.4%) making the concentration of organics in the supposed "primeval organic soup" 10-7 Molar, about the same as the organics in the ocean water today without the life. Since that book was published, many non-theistic scientists have abandoned the idea that life could have evolved in the open water. Current theories include hot water vents, clay deposits, and panspermia, that life was "seeded" here from another place.

Following that logic the Christian God has a God. He is too complicated to make himself.:p

You cannot prove the existence of God, the return of Jesus, or any of the basic tenets of Christian spirituality
.

I can prove to you that pink fairies exist only in your head.
How? If you tell a psychiatrist that there are no pink fairies or pink unicorns, he will say Hmmmm...as he observes you, with a questioning concerned look in his eyes...
then he will lock you up. or put you on meds.

However, tell anyone in authority you believe in God and he will consider you normal

The Law of Increasing Entropy

It has been established that in all physical processes, every ordered system tends over time to become more disorganized, and also to lose energy in the form of heat, and to slow down; ---everything gets old and wears out, or runs down. This increasing randomness, disorder, and cooling is called "Entropy," and this situation is described in physics by the "Second Law of Thermodynamics."

We see this principle expressed in the Bible (in about 1000 BC), when it says (concerning God): "In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded. But you remain the same, and your years will never end" (Psalm 102:25-27).

We know that if the stars in the heavens get very old, they will all burn out, and they will all undergo "heat-death" until everything in the universe cools off to the same temperature. ---In the first century AD, the apostle Paul brings out the same idea when he writes, "For the creation was subjected to frustration ...in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay..." (Romans 8:20-21).

So, the Bible accurately describes the modern Law of increasing Entropy, as the entire material universe relentlessly runs down and loses available usable energy, in a process of "decay."

The key attribute to the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics is the concept of the "closed system". The Bible does not detail that the universe is indeed a closed system, and therefore does not, in any way, describe the 2LOT.

The Number of the Stars in the Universe

In the years 161-126 BC, the man who is said to have first started the study of astronomy, Hiparchus, counted the number of stars in the heavens, and put the number at 1,080. This number was considered to be fairly accurate 300 years later, when Ptolemy announced that the number was more like 1,056.

It wasn't until the invention of the telescope that people realized that the number of the stars was huge ...in the countless millions. The Bible didn't make the mistake of saying that the number was merely a few hundred or thousand, but rather, in about 600 BC, the prophet Jeremiah says the number is "countless as the stars of the sky and measureless as the sand on the seashore" (Jer. 33:22). Also, from the year 1500 BC, the same concept comes from Genesis 22:17. And this is correct, because we now estimate the number of stars to be approximately 10 to the 26th (which may also be a fair estimate of the number of the grains of sand on all the earth's sea-shores), but the actual number is "countless" for us to attempt to precisely count. ---However, God, who is infinite in knowledge, knows the exact number, as the Bible says, "He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name" (Psalm 147:4).

The stars are countable, as well as grains of sand, just not with current technology. Therefore, the Bible is grossly inaccurate here.

The Immense Size of the Cosmos

The Bible makes it clear that the knowledge of God, and His ways of doing things, are virtually infinite beyond that of mankind, ---and the size of the starry cosmos is used as an illustration of this, when God says (in 700 BC), "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts" (Isaiah 55:9).

The heavens actually encircle the earth, they are not "higher". Therefore, this is again grossly inaccurate. Nor does it actually relate to the immense size of the cosmos.

The Roundness of the Earth

At different times and in different places it has been thought that the earth is flat. In fact, as recently as the 16th century, sailors would threaten to mutiny on ocean-going ships that sailed too far from land, for fear of sailing off the edge of the earth, which was thought by many to be flat like a table top. There are even a few who believe in a flat-earth today!

(Some have wrongly thought that the Bible teaches a flat earth, but it does not. The Bible speaks of the "four corners" of the earth (in Rev. 7:1), but this is only a figurative way of referring to the "four points" (basic directions) of the compass ---and this same verse speaks of the "four winds," which refers to the same thing.)

In comparison, the Bible actually says, "He (God) sits enthroned above the circle of the earth and its people are like grasshoppers" (Isaiah 40:22 NIV). In that verse, the word translated "circle" is the Hebrew "khoog", which can also be translated as "roundness," "circle," "circuit," or "compass" (ref: Strongs Dictionary, 2329). The roundness of the earth is a viewpoint from space that no mere man had in 760 BC when those words were written. (Although, it might easily be suspected that the earth is round, by looking at the sun and moon). Furthermore, from about the year 1500 BC, it says in Job 26:10, "He marks out a circle (or roundness) on the face of the waters for a boundary between light and darkness." Indeed, a circle would be the correct shape which describes any line between darkness and day-light along the surface of the oceans.

What is being described here is an earth shaped like a pancake, not a globe. So it does reflect a flat earth. And to anyone standing on a flat plane, the earth looks circular, and like a pancake. It is no wonder that ancient peoples thought that.

As you can see, each of the above is incorrect. The Bible is flat out wrong from any scientific point of view. However, it does represent the understanding of the world of the ancient Hebrews.

Let's take the example of a lightbulb in a lamp. The bulb has a "filament" in it that heats up and generates a light.
We physically see that light because our eyes see it.
The Light of the Spirit of God however is internal, it cannot be seen "physically" by the eye, but to the one that feels the presence of the "heat", that person will generate a "light" that cannot be perceived by the naked eye, but through the actions and deeds of that person.
Would others like to give their views on this? Thanks.

Isaiah 60:3 And come have nations to thy light, And kings to the brightness of thy rising.

Matthew 5:16 "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

Actually, this makes the FSM more plausible than God, since we know that substances of which he is composed (spaghetti, meatballs, sauce) exist.

Recently in Afghanistan, a local Afghani was imprisoned and set for execution for believing in Christianity as opposed to Islam. The authorities let him loose, because they determined him to be insane for his belief.

In Roman times, Christians were persecuted for their "atheism". They didn't believe in all the "right" Gods.

George Bush has admitted that their are no WMD in Iraq, and that Iraq had nothing to do with Al-Qaeda.

Point is, the authorities are usually wrong. Because they are just people too.

Yes, it does because God finished his work and rested meaning he ceased making,or creating.
It is closed.
That is why the laws of thermodynamics are in existence.

The Second Law Of Thermodynamics
Article by Dr. Richard Paley
Perhaps the most devastating, non-scriptural argument against Evolutionism and for the Truth of the Bible and Creation is that of the Second Law of Thermodynamics.

The Second Law states that all things in the Universe tend to disorder - or as it is called by scientists, entropy. Scientists say that entropy rises and can never decrease. By this they mean that things will always get more disorderly. This is a scientific fact that can be seen in our everyday lives. Examples of this phenomenon include: a child's room will become more disorderly over time, but will never spontaneously clean itself up; buildings will crumble and decay, but will not repair themselves; people, who do "repair" themselves in the short term, will nonetheless grow old and more physically feeble in the long term.

When we consider the Second Law of Thermodynamics, we can see that science is in agreement with the Truth of the Bible - as it must be if science is to be of any value at all. Not only can we see the Second Law in action throughout the Bible (for example, the moral decay of Sodom and Gomorrah) but the very origin of entropy - the subject of the Second Law - is given to us in Genesis. In Eden, all was perfectly ordered. There was no entropy. When Man ate of the Tree of Life and was cast out, he was cursed with entropy. Since then, entropy has continued to rise and will do so until the end of time.

Sir William Thomson (Lord Kelvin), noted Creation scientist and divinely-inspired discoverer of the Second Law. If it weren't for the Word of God, Man would not know of the Second Law. Sir William Thomson, the noted 19th century Christian scientist and the discoverer of the Second Law, found the inspiration for his discovery in the following line from the Bible: "all of them shall wax old like a garment" (Psalm 102.26). This scientific truth was revealed to Man via the Divine Truth of the Bible.

The Second Law is just that - a Law. It applies everywhere in the Universe, without exception. Unlike mere theories such as Relativity and Evolutionism, the Second Law has been proven to be true and no reputable scientist would ever suggest that it wasn't. Amongst reputable scientists, suggesting something violates the Second Law would result in being considered grossly ignorant, a kook, or a charlatan. Even the US Patent Office has a standing order to ignore patent applications - such as those for perpetual motion machines - that violate the Second Law (the only such a priori restriction that the Patent Office makes) since it is known that such devices would just not work. To put it bluntly: there is just no getting around the Second Law of Thermodynamics.

Evolutionism, however, does try to get around it, and that is why it is bad science. Evolutionism claims that life gets more complicated over time - that its entropy decreases. Specifically, it claims that the minuscule amount of genetic information that would have been in the first Godless proto-lifeform would have increased through the addition and ordering of random mutations.

Let's consider this proposal: The genome (the sum total of all genes in Man) contains information in the form deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) molecules. It is the order of this DNA that creates its informational content - a specific ordering of DNA molecules makes up a gene that produces a protein that in turn makes up part of our physical form. For information to be added or changed, it would be necessary for an addition of ordered DNA or reordering of existing DNA to occur. In other words, a decrease in entropy in direct violation of the Second Law of Thermodynamics.

Random mutations cannot add the ordered information that would be needed to turn a bacteria into a man. This is just a simple fact that can clearly be seen from looking at the Second Law. However it gets worse for Evolutionism, since - as was shown in the 1940's by Claude Shannon of Bell Labs - the addition of randomness to the genome increases the genome's entropy. This means that the exact opposite of what Evolutionism proposes is actually happening - we are getting more disorderly.

The science of Creation, on the other hand, is in complete accordance with the Second Law. Creation science teaches us that Man and God's other creations were all created with informationally dense, uncorrupted DNA. Adam had more genes and more robust genes than you or I have. This is evident in the extreme age that antediluvian men were able to reach which was due to their genes being free of the deleterious mutations that lower life expectancy today. Over the ten thousand years since Creation, our genes have degraded due to the entropy of randomness and we now suffer the consequences of the curse of entropy.

Ummm. Atheists are all too familiar with this arguement. Do you have to cut and paste so much from sites?
