Ah, the apostles creed. Some things we can all agree on.

descendit ad ínferos, tertia die resurrexit a mortuis,
ascendit ad caelos, sedet ad dexteram Patris omnipotentis,
inde venturus est iudicare vivos et mortuos.
Credo in Spiritum Sanctum,
sanctam Ecclesiam catholicam, sanctorum communionem,
remissionem peccatorum,
carnis resurrectionem,
vitam aeternam.
Amen.

Or,

1. I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
2. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
3. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
4. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
5. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again.
6. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
7. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
8. I believe in the Holy Spirit,
9. the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints,
10. the forgiveness of sins,
11. the resurrection of the body,
12. and life everlasting.
Amen.

For the most part you are correct. I believe that some churches do omit the line "He descended into hell" and in some cases substitute it with "He descended to the dead." I have relatives who are Methodist and I don't recall saying that line when I visit their church. Also, I think that some churches use the term "the holy Christian church" rather than "the holy catholic church."

First part, same difference. The Second part is kind of questionable. Why would you substitute Christian for catholic, they have completely different meanings.

What is very interesting about the Apostles Creed, as with the Nicene, is that as a base statement of belief it is not that comprehensive a statement for Christianity, but in fact highlight some of the core areas that are first disbelieved and denied.. particualarly concerning pluralism.

That's probably why it is meant to help the Churches get along, not the individuals. The mature parts of Christianity so to speak.

The church I attend uses "catholic" not "Christian" in the creed however, as I said, some churches do make that substitution. I assume that the substitution is to avoid confusion between catholic and Roman Catholic but I cannot say that for certain. Perhaps a member of one of the denominations that makes such a substitution could explain why.

This is the version of the Apostles Creed that the Episcopal Church in the USA uses:

The Apostles Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen
