“After traveling to Honduras as part of the Witness for Peace delegation, I've returned home with a heavy heart and deep concern for the electoral process and human rights crisis the people of Honduras are enduring,” Omar tweeted in 2017.

Shortly after the trip with the group, she began opposing U.S. military aid to Honduras and publicly called for the suspension of the funding.

Omar’s association with Witness for Peace may prompt more scrutiny of her suitability to serve on the House Foreign Affairs Committee as the Witness for Peace organization and its leaders have supported the socialist regimes of Cuba and Venezuela and come out against the Jewish state, the Washington Free Beacon first revealed.

The group openly calls for the return of the “illegally occupied Guantanamo Naval Base to the Cuban people! And have organized travel delegations to Cuba, while calling Trump’s tougher policy towards the country as “the old unjust, counterproductive Cold War posture of past decades.”

I would agree that Gitmo ought to be returned to the Cuban people. However, Cuba would have to be returned to the Cuban people first. Handing Gitmo to the Castro family is not really a priority or reasonable an option in my opinion.

It’s interesting to me that the Republicans are determine who the Democrats’ rising stars are.

As for Witness for Peace - I do not see any where that they are anti-US or anti-Israel except in the minds of rabid conservatives. I can’t even find that they have interest in Israel - they seem to focus on Central and South America. They do seem to oppose some US policies, but mostly because they prefer peace and prosperity through staying out of other countries.

You and I may not agree with their politics, but I see nothing here that would “disqualify” Representative Omar from serving on this committee.

I think it's some sort of perpetual cycle where some media outlet reports on some subject, it gets views because of it's attention grabbing nature, opposition gives it even more attention by producing commentary on it, so more media outlets report on the subject where it grabs continued/more attention, so opposition gives it even more attention by producing more commentary....and on it goes. Before you know it, you have Trump, AOC, Omar, and whoever comes next as the "rising stars" all because, in part, people sell their attention too cheaply.

Oh, yes. There may be more interest on the right, just as there is an inordinate interest in any individual that the left can make into a scandal, but AOC has been well-covered and commented on by the media in general.
