Was there any thought you wished to express
in your earlier comment?
I don't know. Sometimes I say something, and out of it develops an interesting conversation...

Other times, it goes nowhere but down the tubes.

"The fossils date back more than 1.6 billion years, which is around 70 million years earlier than scientists previously thought multicellularity arose, according to a new study published Jan. 24 in the journal Science Advances."

1.6-billion-year-old fossils push back origin of multicellular life by tens of millions of years
Who dates these fossils? Who invented the time machine to confirm that these methods of dating are correct? If we apply scientific method to analysis we have to excluse all these dating methods completely. No scientist has ever invented a time machine to travel back in time to make sure the dates they received were indeed correct. Then there is a mass extinction and no matter what view of this extinction one decides to accept there is still the reality that both events--the Flood and the asteroid--would have greatly disrupted the carbon balance on earth which would result in erroneous dates in our present. So when someone says they know about a fossil 1.6 billion years old, the first thing I'd like to know is the name of the scientist who invented the time machine and traveled back in time to make sure his dates are correct. We are talking scientific method here which is not to be confused with philosophy. The problem with modern dating methods is that its all philosophy. Its gadget philosophy but its still philosophy. We need to move away from the pseudoscience of the 20th century and start getting back to real scientific method again.

They use what they call the uniformitarian principle, which states: the present is key to the past.

That's why they don't understand anything properly.

No Time Machine needed. There are multiple dating methods available - many based on measurements of radioactive decay over time.

From your mention of "carbon balance" it's obvious you are referring to carbon dating. Since 'the asteroid' happened 64 million years ago carbon dating is of little use. Carbon dating measures atmospheric C14 decay and is limited to around 70,000 years.

The Flood, if it had happened, would not have changed the proportion of atmospheric C14 so it would not have affected radiocarbon dating. The theoretical flood, if it happened 5,000 to 10,000 years ago, is within the range of carbon dating. By the way - there is no evidence for a global flood 5k -10k years ago.

There are many dating methodologies, often based on naturally occurring 'clocks', like radioactive decay rates.

Here's a list linked to simple explanations:

Dating Techniques

Relative dating

Stratigraphy

Seriation

Faunal dating

Pollen dating (palynology)

Absolute dating

Amino acid racimization

Cation-ratio dating

Thermoluminescence dating

Tree-ring dating

Radioactive decay dating

Potassium-argon dating

Radiocarbon dating

Uranium series dating

Fission track dating

First of all no dinosaur killing asteroid ever hit the earth. There is zero evidence for the K/pg event.
Secondly, you do need a time machine if you want to stay true to scientific method. Though no matter what, both the Flood and asteroid events would make modern dating impossible due to how both events destroyed the earth.
The evidence for the Flood is overwhelming. Its also right there recorded in Genesis.

It always pays to do a little research before coming up with adamant opinions

Nope. A decent 'clock' based on radioactive decay will do fine.

Though no matter what, both the Flood and asteroid events would make modern dating impossible due to how both events destroyed the earth.

If the Earth was destroyed, how come we're here?

The evidence for the Flood is overwhelming. It's also right there recorded in Genesis.

Evidence for the Flood does not exist outside of Genesis. In fact, there is a decided absence of the type of evidence we should see if the flood actually happened.

Look, the methodolgy is wrong. There is no time machine to check the dates with. Everything is right here in the present now with no way of confirmnation. That is not how scientific method works. Wikipedia is also wrong about the asteroid. It never happened. No proof it happened.
The Flood is proven by ancient antiquity that records it as well as geology. Now for geological proof we have sedimentary rock in which no asteroid would ever leave behind (since firestorms do not leave behind sedimentary rock). The dinos are found in sedimentary rock which tells us that the cause of death was water and not fire. Now with that out of the way we can exclude all fiery explanations from the investation. Next we have marine fossils found in all mountains of the world, including Mt.Everest. There are even many large whale fossils up in the Andes. How did they get there? They were rapidly buried in the sediments during the Flood and also afterward when the waters were receding. We also have ancient witnesses to the aftermath of the Flood.

Job 14:18-19 (NIV 1984 Edition),

18 “But as a mountain erodes and crumbles
and as a rock is moved from its place,
19 as water wears away stones
and torrents wash away the soil,
so you destroy man's hope."

Job here is attributing rapid erosion to the Flood when he says "so You (referring to God) destroy man's hope (by sending a Flood).
What Job is doing here is an outstanding geological survey done in 2000 B.C.!! So we have human witnesses to the aftermath of the Flood.

In fact, I started a series of "WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE" threads; but they didn't fare too well with admin.
