I used to be pretty good too ... I like to be part of a choir. But at the Baptist church years ago the music director wanted to put me more on my own. Soon after I got REALLY sick though, and it changed my voice.

I don't know what else to say about yours ... Solos? A light/airy alto still sounds nice to me anyway?

I read recently, I think it was one of the Saints, who was saying the technical aspects of one's singing mattered much less than the reverence one had for the hymn. That the singer could drive someone from the Church with a perfect performance from an irreverent heart, but that God would draw people to the sweetness and cover over mistakes by one who sings with reverence. I certainly hope that is true in my case, anyway.

shoot me - so we had somebody made a catechumen this morning, but instead of what I am used to in OCA practice - essentially like 2 prayers - they also did the exorcisms and the Creed and stuff? So that was like 15 minutes. It was weird.

Just found out today that they have live choir singing for the Church tours during the Greek Festival - and they asked me to sing. Three days of getting to sing a few hymns every couple of hours. In Church. This is going to be heaven for me!

Ohhhh, AND ... on the solea, not in the choir loft. Today we practiced. The acoustics are TOTALLY different from there, AND of course we are right by the icons up front. This is going to be better than great. Except I'm going to wish it could always be down there. (Impossible, there is no space for all of us, and of course we would be in Father's way. I wish our architecture was a bit different ...

But I can't wait for next weekend!

And one of the songs is my favorite - Enite/Ainete!

Good luck with the festival! Sounds like the choir participation part should be a great experience! I totally agree about the weather! It was our anniversary on Monday...we thought it would be pouring rain but it was perfectly clear and beautiful weather. So thankful for the reprieve in the weather! I'll definitely pop in when I can!

We had everything just about finished as of Sunday afternoon. As far as the preparations for food, the dancers are ready, hopefully (we) the choir are!

There was still some work on putting up the big tent and all that, but that isn't finished until the last day. All the smaller structures were just about finished.

I think we're good to go. God willing!

Yes!

That's what I'm looking forward to. I've never seen one. God willing, I hope to be part of the small choir that will be singing for them, though I am getting a cough.

I will, and thanks.

I stayed home today. It's a 3-day festival - I was hoping staying warm, getting rest, etc. will at least make me ok to make it through the next two days. It got worse for a bit, and seems to be better now. I should be off to bed soon (though I slept almost 12 hours - tired of sleeping!) to try to be up for it tomorrow. I'm on duty for coffee in the morning, we have 4 or 5 Church tours, a Liturgy in the afternoon, and it would be about a 16-hour day if I can make it for all, then Liturgy on Sunday is an hour early and the Festival goes all day Sunday.

I don't know - my immune system has been kind of poor since I moved off the farm. I never used to get sick, and I worked MUCH harder in much harsher conditions, outdoors. But we ate real food and farm life tends to be good for the body. I'm a few years older too, but not so much it should matter, I don't think. This place has some toxic issues, but I'm not close to any. I hope I don't have to move again ... I kinda like it here.

After catching up on different shows on Netflix, I've decided that "Best Man Standing" may be the only show on these days that not only has a family that acknowledges, and at times practice, a belief in God, but is so far one of the only ones that actually ENCOURAGES good, moral behavior.

It's amazing the things one does to avoid problems while in the Keys with a hundred drunken sailors

Last Man Standing? I found that one. I think I saw it has new episodes.

I'll have to add Blue Bloods. Never heard of that one.

There were a few older shows I liked at first, but a little ways into it the morals fell apart.
