Beautiful!
Now will it remain there? Or will anti-Christian vandals take it down themselves? Only time will tell.

HELENA, Mont. – A 6-foot tall statue of Jesus that has spent the last 60 years overlooking a northwestern Montana ski hill may stay there, a federal appeals court ruled Monday.

"The Court rightly rejected Freedom From Religion Foundation's radical idea that a privately owned memorial standing in the middle of a ski resort violates the Constitution," said Eric Baxter, senior counsel with the Becket Fund, which defended the Flathead National Forest, forest supervisor Chip Weber and the U.S. Forest Service on appeal.

I like it. Seeing the Theotokos in a mountainous area like that reminds me of pictures of Lebanon where there are similar statues.

And good for the ski lodge. As much as some atheists like to think otherwise, Freedom of religion does not mean freedom from religion to the extent that any religious artifact that offends them can be removed from public view based on a claim that it violates the establishment clause. It means that you don't have to practice or give credence to any belief system, but not that other people who want to do so are barred from doing so in public if it offends you. Get over it, you whiny babies. You think the rest of us want to listen to your long, boring disputations with religious people that are everywhere these days? I don't, but those too are part of the way that freedom of religion works in the USA, so I don't demand that Richard Dawkins or Sam Harris stop publishing or giving public speeches or whatever. Geez. It's a two way street, and if you don't like it, you can leave. There are plenty of societies where the practice of the Christian religion has more or less died out (like most of Western Europe, though probably those same atheists won't like the particular religious faith that is replacing it, which does not recognize any kind of right of conscience for people), so feel free to go live in one of those. American society in particular cannot function properly when only one side is allowed to participate in public life.

Maybe theres more acting like Christians, and less shouting in Europe than in the States, certainly less bellowing .

Right, it's ok with God to mock and deny Christ and the Father...So long as you're "a good person."

Europe is the nihilistic void Nietzsche predicted it would become, only instead of the ubermensch all that is replacing it is Islam or hedonism.

I think it was the situation of it's placement that was a bit murky...it was some sort of war memorial unofficially placed on public land before the ski hill existed.
I'm pretty sure the article said it was placed there by the Knights of Columbus as a war memorial.
The Lady of the Rockies.
I have been to Butte but a failed to see her. ):

I think it was more the legality of the placement that was a bit murky.
Our Lady in Butte was built in the 80s, do she's not all that old. The videos of the helicopter flying parts of the statue to the mountain are impressive, especially when they almost failed in on a very windy day.

My dislike for giant statues aside, seems like the right call in this case. Privately leased and privately place statue. I have no problem with it.
The one at Whitefish is actually not too big, even on its pedestal. I have a picture of my 7 year old next to it I'll have to share.
Now the Lady of the Rockies, also in MT, is America's second largest statue, behind only the Statue of Liberty.

For some reason, and please don't think it's religious as it could be a giant bunny, the idea of suddenly coming upon a statue looking down on me in the mountains is just creepy. No idea why.
