There is nothing wrong with loving someone of the same sex, so long as it's not "Eros" love.

We are supposed to avoid temptation regardless of how things look. There was a whole big discussion on this in mystagogia.

Everything is a temptation. Should I avoid buffets because I'm fat?

Edit: plus someone said "to avoid scandal". The roommates angle avoids the scandal and puts any "reading into" the situation on outsiders.

Please, let us be understanding. You can't just expect from gay people to NEVER fall in love. You have to realize that the gay person who lives in the Western Society today has a lot to deal with. If a gay couple trying to abstain from sex, and you come and say to them that even if they are in love and they are not having sex, it is still a sin!! Really!! So the Church is not just objecting to the sex part, but even the emotional part ? I doubt it.

yes, they live in a society that sees no wrong in what they want.
A society that goes so far as to promote that view.

the problem is that is not the kind of relationship that God approves of.

your scenario is no different than if we were discussing two people in collusion with each other who wanted to commit murder,
or rob a bank,
or cheat on their taxes, who did nothing but think about these things and fantasize about actually doing them.

The temptation in itself is not wrong, but it is misunderstood and misplaced.
what is wrong is knowingly indulging in circumstances which could lead to sin instead of avoiding those circumstances in the first place.

This is what Christ's temptation in the wilderness by satan was all about.
Satan set Christ up when Christ was physically stressed and weak, and urged Him to take the shortcut and
indulge then in what God had promised Him for the future---without all the pain and toil and frustration and sacrifice required to get there.
Satan wanted Christ to say yes and take the easy way out; to grab the brass ring, change His loyalties, and enjoy Himself.

Temporary earthly satisfaction was the temptation of the day.
and all it would cost was an eternity in hell for all of humanity.

think about that, and remember who it is that is making such an offer the next time you ask people to be understanding.

p.s. a monk, a nun, or a priest are all called to holiness and chastity, and to love God before all else.

If there is nothing sexual about their relationship, then why define their relationship in terms of sexual orientation?

I would seriously suggest avoiding buffets...or anything else that would tempt you to overeat.

Consider a heterosexual guy, living alone with a beautiful woman...they are attracted to each other...maybe they are even in love.
Tell me that, sooner or later, these "room mates" aren't going to find themselves "sleeping" in the same bed? Go ahead...tell me lies, tell me sweet little lies...tell me lies and give me alibis...
