Proverbs 2
Everyone read Chapter 2 if it is the 2nd day of the month today. Come back and give us your thoughts....Tishri1 :wave:
1 My son, if you will receive my words and store my commands inside you,
2 paying attention to wisdom inclining your mind toward understanding
3 yes, if you will call for insight and raise your voice for discernment,
4 if you seek it as you would silver and search for it as for hidden treasure
5 then you will understand the fear of ADONAI and find knowledge of God.
Memories of my kids again.:bigeye: Teaching them and using proverbs to facilitate home school.
6 For ADONAI gives wisdom; from his mouth comes knowledge and understanding.
7 He stores up common sense for the upright, is a shield to those whose conduct is blameless,
8 in order to guard the courses of justice and preserve the way of those faithful to him.
9 Then you will understand righteousness, justice, fairness and every good path.
10 For wisdom will enter your heart, knowledge will be enjoyable for you,
11 discretion will watch over you, and discernment will guard you.
I could really use this now as with everything happening in the world that is affecting the believer's life, we all need wisdom, God's wisdom to survive in a way!
12 They will save you from the way of evil and from those who speak deceitfully,
13 who leave the paths of honesty to walk the ways of darkness,
14 who delight in doing evil and take joy in being stubbornly deceitful,
15 from those whose tracks are twisted and whose paths are perverse.
16 They will save you from a woman who is a stranger, from a loose woman with smooth talk,
17 who abandons the ruler she had in her youth and forgets the covenant of her God.
18 Her house is sinking toward death, her paths lead to the dead.
19 None who go to her return; they never regain the path to life.
That's a little scary!
20 Thus you will walk on the way of good people and keep to the paths of the righteous.
21 For the upright will live in the land, the pure-hearted will remain there;
22 but the wicked will be cut off from the land, the unfaithful rooted out of it.
A promise to lean on... :)

i know there is so much in here but for me when i read this proverb

if you will receive my words ...

Its that word receive that just stuck out at me if you wil receive .. hear, take in, listen, imbibe ,apply, grasp hold of ..

i mean as in contrast to reasoning his word which leads to (can lead to)us making excuse for not receiving..
sorry not trying to preach..just sharing what "stuck out " to me this time :)
I'm to have an attitude that is ever willing to absorb his word like dry ground receives living waters ..

Hi
Ah yesterday was Proverbs 2. I missed that. I loved Proverbs 2 in this way, but I wll then shift over to Proverbs 3. All this will be from my world, so it is personal.
In Proverbs 2, I was able to first learn that The Lord as listed there is God The Father, and that my Lord or our Lord is Jesus. I did not learn it from there though, I learned it from combining things that Jesus said, and then I went on the prowl, to see what else I could learn. Jesus said that He is talked about in The Old Testament. Jesus said The Old Testament cannot be changed. Then He, used a passage from Psalms 110 to us, but He added something. It was this: David speaking under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit said: The Lord said to my Lord, sit here.... so on and so forth.
I took a guess. The Lord is God The Father. My Lord is Jesus, to David. Notice also that The Holy Spirit is mentioned as the one Who Told David what to say. However, in Psalms 2, I actually could see Jesus accepting His inheritance from His Father after making those substitutions.
So, I really liked Psalms 2 for that, and it is the first place, that the way, is mentioned.

LOVE,
...Mary., .... .

i'm sorry, just seeing this now....i was at a laptop computer that didn't "understand" me, had a mind of its own, and it had NO MOUSE!!!! LOL!

Yes i agree with the "hearing" less and less and how devastating and tragic this is...

when children are learning Proverbs, it seems like there are good "seeds" being "planted" that will bear fruit in due time, as i believe that God will bless those who learn Proverbs as He promises He will do....there's literally "treasures" in them there words :)

Ok, re: Proverbs 2....here is a real TREASURE!!

These verses hold precious promises for those who "seek" diligently wisdom (which is based on a Godly "fear of the Lord") and in essence, dig as with a shovel, as if for hidden treasure, and it promised that they will surely find it:

"Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding. He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly. He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints. Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path. When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul; Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:" ~Proverbs 2:3-11

Hi,

There is a little too much here to comment on all of it.

I will say this, after God finally made me stop and listen to Him (Meaning God found me, not I found God for real.), there were many many many many decietful people in my life, and by the time God found me, I had even had my training to kill to protect others, elevated to reaction and instinct by then. And no; the day I realized that, it was not a good day. The year was 1969.
However, only after God found me, and Biblically by the way, then revealed Himself, thus making it just impossible to forget Him ever, I noticed that slowly all the decietful people were in fact defeated.
My life for a few years now, is without deceitful people, except when God has called me in, for real to handle other deceivers.
I would guess that means the my Reluctant Warrior training in words also, is of use to God in setting others free.
Notice how here, that characteristic of being able to understand deceivers is listed in a way. That is listed in Proverbs 2:6-17. I am saying this I have personally experienced and used to get out of trouble and to get others out of trouble, but one more thing. I have used that to out crooks. For:
Once I was blind in this way, and now I can see.

However, I hope there is a remedy for all those who fall victim to the loose woman, but I wonder if she is merely a law situation back then. As, it seems now, all people can recover from this since Jesus Christ.

I say, it is so. Jesus can forgive and even save a man who visits a harlot.

LOVE,
...Mary., .... .

I agree! A hole person's life was ruined in a respectful Jewish household back then. Now a days we can survive a devastating sin with less consequences after repentance although inside we might still be holding in devastation that the Lord wants to heal.

I think we do need to search for it as buried treasure sometimes.....I mean if it were always easy he wouldnt be telling us this :)

Our country needs this and needs ABBA to preserve His way for us.

10 For wisdom will enter your heart, knowledge will be enjoyable for you,
There is a place, a point in the heart of man where this is placed and it brings joy and pleasure- WOW who wouldnt want that!!!

From last month to this month I have been searching for this wisdom and also was becoming distracted by crises that have come into my path.....Those crises make me all the more determined that I need this Wisdom to overcome future crises.

Amen, I particularly love verses 10-11. We can easily see how the times have and are changing, things are not good. Thankfully though we've got the One in control on our side, we just need to constantly look towards Him.

Psalm 2New International Version (NIV)
Psalm 2
1 Why do the nations conspire[a]
and the peoples plot in vain?
2 The kings of the earth rise up
and the rulers band together
against the Lord and against his anointed, saying,
3 “Let us break their chains
and throw off their shackles.”

4 The One enthroned in heaven laughs;
the Lord scoffs at them.
5 He rebukes them in his anger
and terrifies them in his wrath, saying,
6 “I have installed my king
on Zion, my holy mountain.”

7 I will proclaim the Lord’s decree:

He said to me, “You are my son;
today I have become your father.
8 Ask me,
and I will make the nations your inheritance,
the ends of the earth your possession.
9 You will break them with a rod of iron[b];
you will dash them to pieces like pottery.”

10 Therefore, you kings, be wise;
be warned, you rulers of the earth.
11 Serve the Lord with fear
and celebrate his rule with trembling.
12 Kiss his son, or he will be angry
and your way will lead to your destruction,
for his wrath can flare up in a moment.
Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

  2. Psalm 2:9 Or will rule them with an iron scepter (see Septuagint and Syriac)

Hi,
To me, in Proverbs 2:8, Jesus quotes His Father's Words, The Lord's Words to Him. For me, Jesus, silently accepts His inheritance from His Father, it is the nations. It is us. The Lord, here is His Father.

Wow chapter 2 is good

"yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God."
So we have to search for the treasures the Lord has planned for us.

Hi,

As this is the third time through Proverbs on this forum, I noticed something.

Time one: My conversations on line started getting better and better.
Time two: My conversations on line, I now went after the bad and the good, not just the bad.
Time three: This is time three. I don't know what will happen.

LOVE,

Here are some of my thoughts after reading Proverbs 2.
If we want to be wise, if we want wisdom, we are instructed what we are to do. God doesn't leave us in the dark with no direction on how to obtain the wisdom we seek or how to live. We are to listen to wisdom, ask for it, and search for it as you would search for a hidden treasure. After we do all of this we will understand the fear of the Lord (which is the beginning of knowledge). Why? Because the Lord will give us wisdom.(v.6) The Lord is our shield; guarding and watching over his saints. We need to take God's teaching, his word, seriously. Obtaining wisdom isn't just a weekly, monthly, or yearly practice but it is a discipline, like many other parts of the Christian walk, and something we should search for daily. Wisdom comes from God and it is impossible to enjoy it if we do not choose God's paths.

Thanks to the wisdom of God we know what sort of company to avoid so we are not caught in the same snare as they are. We need to avoid people of perverse language, people whose morals have become so twisted and perverted that their values are flipped upside down. These sorts of people rejoice in doing evil, are crooked, and devious. Only the foolish keep company with such people. Wisdom will also safeguard against the adulterer or adulteress. Though only the immoral woman is mentioned it can be applied to an immoral man as well. They use flattery to try to entice. They forget and forsake their vows and their spouses. In the end walking such a path leads to death. However, if we listen to and heed the voice of wisdom, the voice of the Lord, we will be spared the destruction of such people.

Verses 6-8 are probably my favorite out of the whole chapter. I love what it says about the Lord. Not only is he wise but he will give wisdom and understanding to those who do what his word says. He opens our understanding. He keeps his promises.

I ran across this while I was pondering the chapter and I liked it so much I thought I would share it.
(v1-4) condition- If...
(v.5) result A – Then you will understand...
(v.6-8) reason A- For the Lord...
(v.9) result B- Then you will understand...
(v.10) reason B- For wisdom...

i still find these verse delightfully profound in Proverbs 2:

verses 3-6

Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;
If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;
Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.
For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

it brings to mind for me "digging for hidden treasure"

Unfortunately, there is no getting "away" from these types of language people choose to use. It has become so normal that I've always found myself recoiling since I can remember. Looking back, perhaps because I was saved since the age of 6, that became a natural spiritual instinct. However, I have the power to choose not to use such language.
Thanks be to God for giving us the power of choice.

Proverbs 2:15-19
This gave me scary imagery. Moral I got from this is if you trust Him, He will guide your way from such places and into safer areas where faith can grow, and be able to discern from which path to take. Proverbs 2:20-22
