what are your biggest temptations and what can you do to be delivered from them?

Mine seem to center round food. I want to get in the habit of eating healthy but when go out theres nothing but junk food on offer, I get hungry, and then give in cos its cheap.

Also, people want to share their junk food with me, and I have to learn to say no. But its hard if its your dad for example. Cos he will buy it.

Now this might seem like a first world problem, but its a real one. My weakness seems to be KFC and salty chips. And its so convenient drive thru and cheaper than anything else on offer, and its hot.
Unlike many other people I dont have any addictions to coffee or alcohol or even chocolate and lollies. Its the salty things.

What would be a healthier alternative but also salty as need a bit of salt. Does anyone else have this problem? I dont think its good for me if everytime I go out, want to have kfc. What happens to you if you eat too much? People say its ok as im skinny. But maybe one day...it my body might shut down and then whatver I eat start putting on ten pounds as some women say, oh I just look at food and gain weight. I dont know how thats possible.

I do thank God for hot food though. Its just, why do they have to call them wicked wings???
Maybe I should go on a juice fast. But fresh juice if you go out is so expensive. But then buying a juicer machine isnt cheap either.

Arrgh. Maybe I shouldnt worry. At least there is food and I dont have to butcher my own chickens.

That's a real struggle! Don't do anything drastic like a juice fast unless you really feel called to that. Is this a temptation because you feel food drawing you away from God? Or is there another motivation, i.e. you want to look better?
God loves you just how you are. To resist temptation, the only proven method is to rest in Him! I guess it depends on how you're struggling.

Well, i kinda want to be a good example to others who even weaker. I was thinkign this cos our bible teaching for schools was from Daniel and how he ate healthy foods to honor God. And i was thinking, here I am being hypocrite and giving in and eating kfc even though the kids couldnt see me lol. Although i did not vow to God to go on any fast like Daniel did.

but even if not, its not good for me to eat junk food all the time. !!

I know its. OT and we not Jewish but I just thought it was inspiring story and christians ought to be careful what we eat anyway. I mean if we want to live long and not die of heart disease etc. cant blame God for our bad eating habits and expect Him to heal that!

Food doesnt draw me away from God, I do thank Him for it, if its a nice meal and looking forward to it, bit I notice when snacking I just eat kind of mindlessly and forget about God.

I supoose in part I do want to look better (i mean i dont want to look like a complete pig and eat and always think about food all the time) cos Ive noticed that ppl who are obssesed with food and their weight...are kinda boring to be around! Its like the only topic of conversation.

I get very annoyed when my dad just waves those salty chips in front of me and expects me to eat them. I have told him not to buy fizzy drink anymore and hes been good lately. I used to be addicted to fizzy drink when younger. NOT GOOD FOR YOUR TEETH!

Food has been a big source of temptation for me, way less so now than sometimes in the past. Yes, there is so much social pressure to eat things we might feel we shouldn't - plus the stuff tastes so good it's hard to resist sometimes! ;) Guess the answer there is just to "go off the wagon" infrequently and try to do it in moderation.

Here is what I have learned about temptation personally, that is if the temptation is strong, a habit, a stronghold. Struggling against the temptation becomes useless at that point. I might have had some success for a day or so, maybe even a week, but then I am right back to start, maybe even worse. The answer of course was deep, heart felt and humble prayer for Messiah to free me from the addiction. If He was in it I could sail past the temptation and notice it little or not at all. If He wasn't....failure. I've learned that if my prayer didn't work, it wasn't Him, it was me. I wasn't being humble or heartfelt enough. When I did it right I got the results I wanted. We are told to say "fervent" prayers in the Bible and we are told to humble ourselves before our Creator, so that makes sense to me.

Praying for you to be strong in Him against temptations of all kinds.

Im figuring if I had proper meals i would be less inclined to be hungry in between and tempted to snack. Like yesterday, I didnt really have a full breakfast so when went out got hungry, if id had a complete breakfast I could have done with out lunch and then waited till I got home and made or cooked something healthy.

Perhaps.

It was terrible. Yesterday had

Kfc wicked wings. That came with extremely salty deep fried chips and a drink, that was fizzy cos it was combo, but at least i didnt choose pepsi. That was $6. There was a japanese place at the food court that was offering slightly better food, like teriyaki chicken and rice and salad, but that was like $16!

I didnt drink all the combo drink, i should have just asked for plain water.
I also had aioli garlic dip, as its not good to eat all that fried food without a sauce. At least its not tomato, which is acidic and full of sugar.

Then cos my breath kinda smelly, i needed mints, so bought those minty lollies. More sugar and gelatine. And then, on way home saw this fresh strawberry icecream outlet that did 'the best milkshakes in nz' so, i HAD to try that of course as dont really have that at home, it was expensive though but it was strawberries and fresh cream and icecream in the milkshake. Not artificial colourings syrup like youd get at a dairy.

I didnt drink all of it, gave the rest to my dad. But it was very nice. And im thinking what a horrible example to those children if told them what I ate yesterday. As we were talking bout healthy foods, and making choices.

Although, going out, you dont really have much healthy choices these days.

What I did...

Practicing self control again and again, shed a LOT of tears and gotten really angry at myself when I failed...BUT!
I did get through the AWFUL withdrawals.
The soda pop/soft drinks got kicked to the curb,
also with them went: salty chips etc, candy bars, fast foods and store bought pastries etc.

Now, I cook at home a lot and after many trials and errors, I can fix decent meals from"scratch".
I do a spicy herb shake and bake chicken, fix my own french fries and found different herbs/spices/vinegars to make them taste good instead of tasting like a salt lick.
I found "substitutes" instead of using soy sauce -- now I do my own stir-fries using fresh ginger, Russian garlic, shallots, scallions, lemongrass etc.

The sweeteners I use:
organic coconut palm sugar or stevia.

Thanks for the good advice. I was tempted yesterday to eat from the open packet of salty chips but I didnt! Yay! I smelled them and they seemed kinda stale, then I looked up the ingredients and saw how much saturated fat they had, soaked in palm oil, and I thought..any vitamins would have been fried the hell out of.

Instead of chips im having water crackers. At least also, thats kinda biblical. Unleavened bread with hummus.

I just want to say I had a small victory.
I resisted eating any salty packet of chips last night. Cousin had brought some over with beer, of course I dont drink beer and can say no to that, if can say no to that I can say no to salty chips.

I dont eat salty chips.
I dont eat salty crispy fried chips.
I dont need to eat those unhealthy salty deep fried chips!!!

Maybe just winning that war is half the battle, like they have all these flavours like chicken, salt and vinegar, onion, bbq etc. For a long time i could only eat ready salted as just thinking bout artificial flavours and MSG made me ill. Although sometimes would cave and eat salt and vinegar.

But I do kind of think its nicer to eat a real chicken or bbq than a salty chip flavoured like it. And i dont eat pringles. They the worst! Its just mushed up reconstituted potato. My little cousin said she was addicted to them.

Theres wedges with skin on you can buy from frozen section in supermarket (or you can make your own) those are healthy.

Its just the packet crispy snack ones that are really salty that were my weakness.
Although deep fried hot chips once in a while are fine but I get ill if eat too much. The fatter ones are healthier than the skinny ones, they call them french fries at mcdonalds. There doesnt seem to be anything 'french' about them!

Well, what is your problem then? I dont think its 'great' that im fighting it, its just if i dont fight it, maybe i wont live as long on earth. You cant do much when you addicted to something or cant resist something that could actually kill you in the long term.

One of the fruits of the holy spirit is self control.

Or temperence. I have heard older ppl always say..everything in moderation. Well they werent brought up like I was. Chinese culture is like...me first. If you dont eat and get fat, you gonna starve. Grab all you can. Parents push food on you, saying its all good. If you dont eat, its impolite.
