How would they balance against the lies the Florida government told?

When people were hospitalized with COVID and died but happened to have, let's say, diabetes, and the state told the hospitals to say they died of the pre-existing condition.

TBT, if someone manages to stay alive with the preexisting condition for 10 years--then gets COVID and dies--to say he died of the preexisting condition is medical fraud.

Florida did a lot more minimizing of their COVID cases than other states did.
Fantastic where is you evidence for this post?

The issue for me is that folks are being given court dates over FOUR years out.

2nd Court dates should be close enough that the government can house those waiting or be able to track them regularly.

The process for initial court dates is resulting in lots of folks being rejected and deported, and NOT allowed to try legal means again. As was the case with Obama, immigrant groups are and will be very unhappy with the number of deportations. Biden will be the 2nd Deporter In Chief.
=================
IMO, Biden should declare an emergency and appoint enough immigration judges so that the wait time for trial is less than a year (6 months would be better). CONGRESS should pass legislation greatly increasing spending on border security, on granting the DACA folks citizenship, and on giving lots, lots more work permits for agriculture, health, restaurant and hotel workers

GOP states sue Biden for ending Title 42 and setting up border for 'catastrophe'

"Three Republican-led states have sued the Biden administration
to stop it from ending the pandemic border policy that allowed
officials to turn away migrants immediately who illegally came
across the border, saying that the change would result in
further chaos."

"Border chief Alejandro Mayorkas and his progressive deputies
are warning Americans to expect a huge inflow of economic
migrants if the Title 42 border barrier is dropped."
It appears that it was the Trump administration that ended Title 42.
They set the end date

It's only been a few days, but it certainly is encouraging news.

Why border crossings have fallen since Trump-era rules expired last week

On Monday and Tuesday, border agents encountered fewer than 4,000 people at the southern border each day, according to Blas Nuñez-Neto, a lead Department of Homeland Security official. Since last Friday, the first full day without Title 42, agents have encountered an average of 4,400 migrants per day, he said. [Down from ~10,000 a day just before the change.]

The reasons for the decline in border crossings are still unclear — and the trend still in its infancy — but interviews with migrants offer some possible explanations.

Yates said that some migrants are waiting to see whether they will get a slot using the CBP One app. She added that many, especially those from the Western Hemisphere, have heard the messaging about deportations and restrictions on asylum, along with the potential for a five-year ban on reentry.

“I think it’s a combination of two things. One, migrants seem to have gotten the message that policies post-Title 42 would be tougher than during Title 42, so rushed in before Thursday night,” said Julia Gelatt, a senior analyst at the Migration Policy Institute. “Second, there is a lot of confusion about what the policies are, and people may be waiting to see how other migrants fare before attempting their crossings.”

And apparently Americans are living large on the stimulus money so we need somebody to take those $15 / hr jobs.

given that most of the jobs imigrants do are jobs americans refuse to do, kind of funny complaining about them. Desantis made it illegal for imigrants to work in florida and now many jobs can't do anything because no one will work.

… for the pay offered. Why does the end of that sentence get left off so often?

He signed a bill with stiff penalties regarding illegal immigrants, not legal ones.

Florida's economy will be seriously hurt with no more illegal immigrants available to hire workers in agriculture, construction, and health and hospitality.

However, this is a choice that Florida has every right to make. They are free to export these jobs as well as Disney jobs.

The rather obvious solution is for the Congress to pass laws authorizing many, many more green cards for needed workers. Yes, we could also pay $20 an hour for agricultural workers and hope that the companies would still be competitive with agricultural imports.
==========
There is nothing inherently wrong with restricting immigration. We can continue to pay more for products, and having much less service available at restaurants and hotels. The issue is to decide what jobs require immiigrants and then to grant green cards for those jobs, and perhaps even encourage legal immigration to folks willing to fill those jobs.
===========
I suspect that many are fine with the situation as it is. Enforcing the law, as Florida wants to do, is NOT an inherently bad idea.

If pandemic restriction arent needed, then its no big danger, and we can impose medical restrictions at the border just like before the pandemic.

I do get that pandemic restrictions can be a useful tool to selectively advance other policy preferences tho.

I do believe I remember the GOP pitching fits about the possibility of covid pandemic restrictions being used for political purposes.

Have you seen the “defund the police” of 2020 has now morphed into “defund the FBI!” ?
