I think that this kind of sentencing is frivolous. Just piling on charges like that to increase the length of the prison sentence does nothing.

I know that there are cases where people have to serve 5+ life sentences plus several centuries. What's the point of that?

In germany, as long as you're not proven to be a danger to society, you almost always get out after fifteen years.

George Floyd wasn't up for an award. His past and character are irrelevant.

The only things relevant were:

• What was his cause of death?
• Did the restraining police officer cause the death?
• Was the method used to restrain GF appropriate (was it in the police training manual?)
• Was it a matter of self defence (was the police officer or others present lives in immediate danger from GF)?

In germany, as long as you're not proven to be a danger to society, you almost always get out after fifteen years.

Dangers to society can still get individual charges overturned, even for procedural missteps. Best to not have all the eggs in one basket, I guess. There's also state charges and federal charges, depending on the offense, and those are judged and sentenced separately.
