In the USA. What, do you not have bears in Australia? This is common knowledge here. They even sometimes kill and drag off campers to eat.

Sarcasm aside, outside Alaska I'd be willing to bet folding money that bear home invasions are roughly as pressing a concern and just as dangerous to the average American as Islamic terrorism.

It's not a pressing concern, but it is a concern. Just like I don't expect to die in a car crash, but it's definitely within the realm of [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]ibility.

Alaska has large Brown bears and polar bears, but bears are all over North America, including where I live. It's black bears around here, which do kill people sometimes.

Coyotes and rabid dogs are a larger concern. I've been menaced by strange dogs in my own yard before, but not attacked. I would definitely shoot a dog that attacked me.

Thanks for the in depth reply. Upshot of which, however, is that most places in the US, teaching a 6 year old to shoot because you're afraid of bear home invaders seems excessive.

Oh I agree. 6 year olds are old enough to teach to shoot, but I wouldn't expect them to defend the home. The firearms should be locked up when not in use, and kid-proofed basically.

That's how my buddy's kid is. He's almost 4 and she let's him shoot guns on their property, with her supervision of course.

Trouble is an all around dismissal of other peoples situation. Either the area or situation they are in and no one's interested in listening to the other side. People just determine the other side are the lowest form of filth in the Galaxy. Nobody listens and they are far more interested in their own views than the are others. It's a toxic mix of self-importance that leave the elitists in charge their impression of reality instead of God.

Not everyone wants to rid the Earth of all guns and not everyone worships the NRA. Non of this is about the person themselves, but how they fit in society. People are not evil, but listening to those who would wish to control others by demonizing those in other groups come a very close second to Satan himself.

Gilt's probably looking at misdemeanor charges. Apparently what happened is that she put the gun under the driver's seat and it slid to the back where the kid grabbed it.

Misdemeanor charges seem appropriate, but I don't think she needs to spend anytime in jail for the incident. Save prison/jail for the real criminals (can we stop sending non-violent drug offenders to prison too?).
