Then who should get to chose who is on the SCOTUS?
Sorry, you've demonstrated that you're not someone I'll have a conversation with. You figure it out. Buh bye.

It is interesting to see God's Sovereign hand at work in this nation and the world at-large. I have no idea what God is doing in the United States, but it is interesting to see the lack of leadership in the Presidential race and now the loss of a Conservative, Constitutionalist, judge on the Supreme Court. I find myself looking around for any "writing on the wall."
I'd like to see a little of that here, since some people seem honor politics over God and simply assume he will follow them around like a puppy dog.

Sure it is. Frequently.
Death puts an end to a persons chance to redeem themselves and for those who already have, they are taken away leaving less goodness in this world. Please tell me of this good that death brings and please leave out the politics, None of that has legs beyond your own.

Not sure where you think I've mentioned anything political in this thread. You shouldn't make up fantasies or bear false witness against me.

How is death good? It clears the way for the young to become the old. It does away with the bad ideas from the past and allows change. Redemption, if you will.

Scalia was 79 years old. He'd lived his life, and he'd done a lot. There was nothing much left for him except the last thing.

Death is never a good thing.

I'm going to partially disagree. For example, I'd say my parent's deaths were a good thing. In my mom's case, she had both Alzheimer's and Cancer; she was no longer herself and in pain. My father, after the death of my mother, quickly declined. He had a severe issue with dementia, he was no longer himself, missed my mother terribly, and in the end also had cancer. In both cases, I have to think it was a blessing for them to pass; no matter how much it hurt me. Both had lived long and full lives. Despite the fact I still miss them, it seems like death was the best thing for them rather than to continue to suffer.

Now, I'll agree that I don't believe it was a "good thing" for Justice Scalia. I disagreed with him politically and I do think he had lost some of his legal mind in the last decade, but he still appeared to be in reasonably good health and my heart goes out to his family and friends.

I go to post this, don't see it, and then you manage to get this posted before I get mine up.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out in this election year. I can see the Senate "playing politics" and refusing to approve anyone Pres. Obama nominates to replace Justice Scalia. If they do, though, you have to wonder what kind of effect that might have on Republican candidates, particularly the Presidential candidate -- and doubly so if someone like Cruz is nominated, who is already blamed for shutting down the government because of politics. While it might energize the Republican base, it will also energize the Democrats, as well as possibly souring Independents on whichever party is viewed as having "played politics" with the nomination/approval process.

Because the Dems would never "play politics."

With the amount of politics that strike this site over the last few months It was a good guess that a person who stated what you did, here would be speaking about a need for a conservative to go. Sorry if I jumped the gun.

It has that chance, but how many times have you seen that happen. young people are raised by the old and their ideas transfer. Then there is that we forget our past and old thinking becomes new thinking through the arrogance of those who think their thoughts are original. Experience is the only thing that can stop that and young people have little of that.

agreed, but still not a good thing.

I don't understand this addiction to newness that seems to permeate from people in this country. It is like what I told a liberal friend a while back. I told him that not all things that progress are good. All you need to have is Cancer to see that.

I really just need to point to myself. My daddy was born in the 1920s in the rural South, and he was very much a product of that time and place. Even as a kid, I didn't buy most of the stuff that came out of his mouth.

Realize that you're talking to somebody who doesn't own a cellphone and who can't figure out how Twitter works. The old is not necessarily bad, and the new is not necessarily good. But things that are both old and bad are not changed by the people who put them into effect in the first place.

Sorry to hear the news. Let's hope Obama picks a replacement quickly and that he/she can avoid the usual partisan drama...

Nope. I don't want a justice picked "quickly". This person serves for LIFE. I want them properly vetted and investigated. Obama does not have time to do this. He should gracefully allow the next POTUS to take care of this matter.

Here's a prediction I read earlier when the news first hit the air: Obama agrees to pardon Hillary re: email scandal. Sanders agrees to put her on the Supreme Court if he wins. Hillary bows out...

Would be interesting to see how that would pan out.
