If it were possible to ask the martyrs whether they would be prepared to die today rather than disown the “church” of the popes I’m sure they would all be queuing up to disown it, and be prepared to die rather than belong to it.

So, what, they were all proto-Protestant martyrs in your opinion?

That's a completely invalid argument.

Just because you believe it to be invalid doesn't make it invalid. I'm fully convinced in my own mind that the martyrs would most definitely be appalled by the Papacy and would have run a mile rather than defend it. What is now termed Catholicism I don't accept for a minute would be recognised by the early Church as genuine Catholicism. The Papacy is a complete outsider which has managed to worm its way into the Church through unchristian bishops of Rome being seduced by the lust for power. There's no Papacy in the Bible. That's just RC wishful thinking.

Its almost humorous how this thread has become exactly what it is titled, I doubt the OP had this in mind when they created this thread.
TBH, I don't see anyone bashing a Catholic.
Which posts do you feel are RCC bashing?

The papacy was already there. The Church was simply not around to give it proper definition and tradition.

CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: List of Popes

That's just a list of the people the Roman Catholic Church considers to have been popes, looking back. The notion would have come as a huge surprise to quite a few of them. ;)

Not really, no. Even other catholic churches don't deny it.

Just your lot, thousands of years later. Go figure.

There was no Papacy, as in Rome was in charge of all Churches, in anti-nicene Christianity.

That factual. Councils are what gave Rome Primacy, and it had nothing to do with the sucession of St. Peter.

God be gracious to me a sinner.

Rome wasn't the first Church, Rome wasn't second or even third.

Rome was fourth. (42ad)

Jerusalem is the mother Church (33ad) and Antioch her first daughter (38ad) followed closely by Alexandria (38ad)

All of these Churches were both Orthodox and Catholic and had been established by Apostles.

God be gracious to me a sinner.

God's people are in all the churches that make up Christianity.....

Here's my paraphrase of Paul's statement, "There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."

There is neither Catholic nor Baptist, Methodist nor Adventist, for we are all one in Christ. In other words God doesn't see denominations, He see His people in all these churches....

First of all, kudos to you. It's good to be able to disagree without resorting to bashing.

I've rarely met people that have claimed the title of fundamentalist, save for a small group here on CF. It's very much a "dirty" word similar to ones like "communist" in American politics and hipster in pop culture.

Bashing is rarely productive however some feel very hurt by their experiences in certain religious circles and it can be a good panacea for them to refer to negative elements by their real names.

Thank you, now if we can stop attacking the Word of Faith Christians it would be better :D

Is it okay to debate word-of-faith-doctrine?

The name it and claim it stuff?

The God wants you to be wealthy stuff?

The if you're sick it's because you lack faith stuff?
