Can any of you guys think of any reasons why I just lost interest in reading the bible? Like my desire is not as strong as it was a month ago. With the lack of my desire I just never pick it up anymore. I really wish I knew why I just like lost interest and no longer feel the need to pick it up, when i desperately need get into it. I'm lacking the knowledge that I need when I put it off.

That's one of the devil's greatest desires; to keep you out of the Word of God. If he can keep you out of the Word, he's happy. The Word of God holds all truths and draws you closer to God. He hates it.

Well if that's the case I may need to force myself to read some each day, even when I don't feel like it.

i found it was almost spiritual oppression when i tried reading the bible, its like all of a sudden i could barely keep my eyes open, and there was no reason for me to be tired. and i to felt completely disinterested to read on

if you really want to get into the word i recomend the new testiment dramatized on cd, its word for word but its like listening to a movie.

i had a long commute to and from work and really enjoyed all of the new testiment, over and over, what was really strange was how each time i listened to it new and different truths jumped out at me

maybe thats why they call it the living word, its contantly teaching me new things.

the dramatized version is really cool:thumbsup:........getting all that word in your heart is like building up your immune system against sin

I just watched a show about this on TBN, called No More Tears (Surviving Depression). I rarely watch TBN, but this caught my attention, as I suffer from depression. The woman in the show had some crazy purple or pink hair and she was older. I'm sure people who watch TBN know who I'm talking about. Anyways, she was talking about how she had been a happy person full of energy, but one day out of the blue she was struck with depression, and it lasted for weeks and weeks and weeks. She talked about how she couldn't do anything she loved anymore; she couldn't read the Bible, something she said she loves to do, even from the time she was a little girl, and it tore her up that she just couldn't do it any longer, among many other things. She talked about how the devil used that as a way to destroy her, because he knew taking her out of the Word of God would be devastating to her life. Long story short, she eventually beat the depression through the grace of Jesus Christ. Don't let the devil take you out of the Word. She was in tears as she talked about how it destroyed her.

Wow! How strange! I have been suffering from this very same thing, and it has taken root as the central problem in my life right now, and something that is constantly on my mind. A few weeks ago, out of the blue, I began to get so tired almost immediately after opening my Bible. This had never happened to me before. My first thought was, "demons!" Yeah, to a non-Christian that might sound crazy... "DEMONS!" LOL. But joking aside, it continued and still continues, but I've been fighting it. I have prayed for Jesus to take this away from me constantly, but it is getting worse. I read my Bible to the point of yawning tears, fighting back hard. At first all I had to do was stop reading the Bible and I was fine. Now, knowing that I'm fighting back, I'm drowsy all day long from the moment I wake up. :(

Do you love God? Do you love Christ? If so, how much? If you love him more than anything else, then you should hunger and thirst for every word that drops from his lips. Perhaps your Bible is not the Holy Bible. Or, perhaps you are not a Christian? Find a set time each day to put aside to just read your Bible. Pray about this personally up to the Lord, and ask him to revive you and your love for him, and to set your heart on fire for him to where you will eagerly want to read his words in the Holy Bible, and to feast upon them like it is your very life. God has much to say to you personally in the Holy Bible, read it and see what he says to you. Amen? Amen.

It happens to me, too.

But when I am into it, boy is it rewarding.

I go through phases.

Don't take this wrong (everyone/anyone) but the bible can be a dry boring book. Some people say when they read it that words pop out, truths come oozing out at the speed of light, mountains move...joy just pop outs of every tasty word.

My own experience is not like that. For me reading the bible is like going in to a day job. It's work. It's routine. Frankly, I find it boring. However, where it does pop out at me is when I read it to find out if what so and so in the pulpit is actually teaching (from) the bible, and not just making things up. So for me, that's my motivation.

I will say, however, things got brutal for me a few years ago, and I'm thankful I knew the basic essentials. Even though some of the basics I was taught were out of context and not really even scriptural. I hope that made sense. You need to find (your own) special way to go about it that's personal between you and God.

A couple of things really bother me about this post. First, how can his Bible not be the Holy Bible? Second, why would you subtly question whether or not he's a Christian? My wife is a Christian; whereas I'm the Bible thumper, she's the church goer. She doesn't read the Bible, but boy is she set on being at church every weekend. I read the Bible for literally hours a day, but she's got to grab me by the ear half the time to get me to church.

I agree with you that there have only been a few times when I read parts of it, I was just completely interested and I didn't want to put it down. Like there was a time when i just started reading Genesis and it was so interesting I didnt stop reading until the 17th chapter(maybe more but i cant remember). That strive to keep going has only happened a few times sadly...and i miss it.

Thank you for this thread. For me, when I first became a Christian, I loved the bible but found it dry reading. So ended up listening to more sermons (good sermons BTW) than reading the bible. Fast forward to today, am trying hard to get into bible reading and bible study but it seems obstacles are in my way. This time I really want to read but many times seem to be making no progress/understanding. The devil tries to attack me with loneliness, fear and whatever it can get its hands on to thwart me from reading. Am fighting back now. But I don't seem to make much progress in understanding the bible, sigh! Am grateful for the online bible study--while its not exactly what I hope for, it still helps some, so very grateful for that. Am praying and will continue praying on that

You might just be someone who needs to learn through experience rather than study, judging from your signature; you observe God's glory through His actual creation. I'm like this too. When it comes to God I don't learn through big revelations through the bible. But I do learn from what I read through experience. I wouldn't worry about it. That you don't have a burning yearning desire to have your nose glued to the bible does not make you less a Christian. Just get the essentials down and let God work on the rest.

These things happen sometimes. This is why you shouldn't attempt to read too much at a time (or at least it is why I don't). I have been known to have a similar issue.

Here's what I'm doing as of the first of January:
One-year NRSV Bible Reading Plans

Yep- this exactly. It can also happen during prayer.
