This is a wonderful book! I bought it yesterday and can not stop reading it! Has anyone heard of it or read it yet?
Yeah. From the CBS segment (I've not read the book myself). The author of the book was some high-paid guy (marketing if I recall correctly) but he got divorced and then shortly thereafter at the age of like 45-50 he was fired from his high-paying job. The manager at a Starbucks randomly asked him if he wanted a job, he accepted. He now lives in a much smaller residence, a studio vs his old 4-bedroom house, but he says he is happier now than he ever was when he was making alot more money with a huge house.StarBucks the coffee shop ??!
Haven't read the book. All i know is that Starbucks sued a Orthodox Monastery.
See, personally that really isn't negative to me. One has to understand trademark law. If the owners of a trademark do not actively prohibit people from using their trademark, in that case the "Christmas Blend" name for coffee, then the company owning the trademark automatically loses any trademark protection despite the fact that they may own the trademark. Thus, since Starbucks owned "Christmas Blend", legally Starbucks was obligated to take all legal action necessary to stop any use of that name or else they essentially would have willingly given away the rights to the name.
Thanks! It is ok! I feel like a jerk for getting upset! Forgive me too!I just realized that I hijacked this thread, and I feel bad about it. If we want to talk about Starbucks suing the Orthodoxy, can someone make another thread?
Back to the book now.. sorry about that Bushmasterswife.

Yeah, I thought I had some of the facts slightly wrong. Thanks. What I saw on CBS did make it seem an interesting story though.Michael Gates Gill was raised in a wealthy family (his father was a writer for the New Yorker; his father also wrote a book "Here at The New Yorker"). He attended Yale and then worked for over 25 years at J. Walter thompson Advertising as a creative director. The company down sized, so he was let go. Shortly after that he had an affair, in which he had another child (making 5 total children....4 from his marriage). His 20 year marriage ended then. He let his wife have the big house and moved into a small apartment. He was diagnosed with a slow-growing brain tumor and had no money or health insurance. One day he was sitting at a Starbucks store in Manhattan and there happened to be other Starbuck store managers there doing interviews. One happened to ask him if he wanted a job. He said yes, had an interview, and the manager said she would be in touch in a few days. A few weeks went by and the manager finally called and offered him the job. He accepted. The store is located at 93rd and Broadway. I am only at the first day of his job. But I do know in the end of the book he transfers to another store that is located close to where he lives (within walking distance I believe). It is a wonderful book! I don't want to stop reading it! I know he learns so many things from working at Starbucks............basic thing being cultural differences, diversity, etc.! Wow..........excited to get done with it and then give it to a friend to read! WOOT!!!!!
