@Maria Billingsley

I believe thats false, those for whom Christ died have been forgiven of all their sins, to include unbelief and disobedience. Then He gives them New Birth which contains both Faith and repentance.
If they have already been forgiven everything before faith, even their unbelief, what part does faith play in salvation and why is it necessary for salvation?

If they have been forgiven everything, then that should mean their standing with God is already right, even before faith. Right?

So from this I draw the conclusion the only thing faith does is showing you are saved, but faith has nothing to do with our standing with God.

Faith giving the remission of sin, there is unforgiven sin for which penalty must be paid, only at the death of the unbeliever.

There is no sin, including unbelief, to be forgiven at the believer's death,
all having been forgiven and removed when, in the rebirth by the sovereign Holy Spirit as unaccountable as the wind (Jn 3:3-8),
the sinner received the gift of faith (Php 1:29, Ac 13:8, 18:27, 2 Pe 1:1, Ro 12:3 ) in Christ and his atoning work (blood, Ro 3:25) which saved (Eph 2:8-9).

There is no sin having been forgiven, including unbelief, at the unbeliever's death.
Like I said thats error to attribute to man something Christs Death did, taking way sin, unbelief and all, for His Sheep

1. What is it that changes when I apprehend my justification?

2. Why is it necessary to apprehend my justification for salvation?

Im not sure what you are saying.
Your title asks,

"Did Christ die for the sin of unbelief?"

Yes.

Jesus wants people to be saved. So, yes He pleases to forgive different sins, including unbelief . . . so that we may be saved.

Have you forgotten what this thread is about ?
Fair enough... Yes, Jesus defeats Satan and the only way for him to do this was to pay the price for all sin in the whole world, even unbelief. The reason you still need to repent and believe is because having a price paid for you sins does not mean you are free. You need to be washed clean, have your sins forgiven through the sacrificial payment of Christ, which happens through receiving the sacrifice by repentance and faith.

The poster thinks that if Christ died for unbelief, then there is no condemnation of anyone for unbelief/rejection of Christ, all are saved.

I just gave you the reason Jesus died for unbelief. I thought the thread was about that.
I know why Jesus died for unbelief, that's what im discussing now. Its sin, and if Jesus died for someone's sins,He died for their unbelief.

The elect of God, like all men are naturally born into this world in unbelief, for Paul writing of the elect from out of both the jews and gentiles writes Rom 11:32

32 For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.

Yet God had a merciful purpose for doing that to the elect, not to condemn them in that state, but the very opposite, to have mercy upon them for being in that state. Understand as well that the word unbelief here also is rendered and means [/FONT]
disobedience. Its the greek word apeitheia. The word apeithēs means:

impersuasible, not compliant, disobedient, contumacious

obstinacy, obstinate opposition to the divine will, disbelief (obstinate and rebellious)

Its this state God imprisoned the elect in for the purpose of mercy ! 1

Now being in unbelief means a few things spiritually for all sinners naturally. Naturally the elect as well as the non elect are spiritually blind to the spiritual things of God Eph 4:18

Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:

2 Cor 4:4

In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

Secondly, the elect by nature in unbelief have hardness of heart towards God and spiritual matters. In fact the word blindness in Eph 4:18 is the grreek word pōrōsisand means:

stupidity or callousness:—blindness, hardness.

Paul writing of jews by nature writes Rom 2:5

But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;

However that doesnt just apply to the unregenerate jews, but to unregenerate gentiles as well, who are in unbelief.

And thirdly to be in unbelief is to be spiritually alienated from the life of God Eph 4:18
Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:

Col 1
:21

And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled

This is how God finds His elect for the purpose of mercy !
