Dean George Cain is an American actor born in the mid-60s. He was born Dean George Tanaka to his father Roger Tanaka and Sharon Thomas Cain. His biological father was not present in his life and according to the actor, he has never met him. When his mother married movie director, Christopher Cain, Cain adopted Dean and his brother Roger which gave birth to the name Dean George Cain.
The actor played and excelled in sports when he was in high school. He attended Santa Monica High School and upon graduation from high school in 1984, he worked as a free safety official for a football team at Princeton University. After University, he became a free agent for the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League, but a knee injury ended his sports career too early.

Is Dean Cain Religious?
Dean Cain has been asked severally in interviews if he is religious. In the 300th episode of the podcast known as the Jesus Calling podcast, titled “God Uses Us Through Our Scars: Tim Tebow, Merry Clayton, & Dean Cain”, Cain talked about his religious life.
Cain admitted that he wasn’t religious while growing up, but along the line, his faith grew and he became religious. In his words:
“We weren’t a very religious family growing up. We would go to church for Christmas and Easter and a couple other things like that. But it didn’t play a huge part of my life growing up until I started getting into college. And in fact, in college, I started taking religion courses, just trying to search and find my way and find my way to faith. I wasn’t against faith, but I didn’t really know what it was. I was too young. And it wasn’t until my son was born when I was in my thirties where it really, really hit home. I think being a parent changes you because you’re no longer the most important thing. And then you start to sort of understand the whole idea behind faith and behind God because you’re living it now. Now someone is more important than you. Becoming a father was really the art of embracing my faith”.
In the same interview, he said that he prays to God every day. He confirmed this when he said, “Everybody struggles. People look at my life and think, Your life is so good, so easy, everything’s just wonderful. And no, it’s never the case for anyone. I humble myself before God every single day because life itself is humbling. And you know, I have a lot of conversations with God, and they happen almost daily. We’ve spoken quite a bit today. There are lots of things that I need guidance and strength on”.
Every religious person takes prayer seriously just like Dean Cain. He has conversations with God and no matter how lost he is, he still finds things to be thankful for. In the podcast, he said:
“There’s so much going on with me professionally right now. Sometimes I can get a little lost, but I don’t know, I just feel like there’s always a moment in every day, whether it’s the beginning of the day, I don’t know how long ago I started doing this, but you know, people will wake up in the morning and they go to their phone first thing. I will wake up, and I’ll think of five things to be thankful for. And I’ll thank God for those five things before I start any part of my day. Even that right there grounds me in humility and really sets t for a day. We can all go through and see all the things that are tough for us. But you know, to say five things that you’re thankful for every morning after you get up kind of set me off on a positive tone. So I just find that to be a wonderful practice”.
Dean Cain and his son even go to Christian holy sites to pray. In a post he made on Twitter on 13th March 2023, he said, “My son and I praying at the exact spot where Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist in the Kingdom of Jordan. Simply Incredible. One of the most holy sites on planet #Blessed.”
Even though Dean had said in a recent interview with Beliefnet that he is not a “terribly religious person”, his actions show that he is somewhat religious.

Cain has talked about his belief in God severally. He talked about his faith in God in a recent interview with Laurie Sue Brockway of Brockway when he was asked how he felt about the religious part of the faith-based film, “The Way Home” he said,
“That was written in the script, the narration at the beginning was talking about how involved God is in daily life. Some people believe God is involved in every little decision we make. Some people believe you’re given the free will to make the decisions. Sometimes people believe God is not involved at all. Doesn’t matter where you stand on that issue, there is a whole community who, on this day, believe God had something to do with it. And that’s the way it goes in the story. I am not terribly religious but I have faith. I don’t really go down one path. I wouldn’t call myself a Buddhist, or a Catholic a Christian or a Muslim, or Jewish. I couldn’t put myself into any organized faith. But when I was flying over Iraq in 2005 being shot at while visiting our soldiers, you better believe I was praying to God. When my son gets sick, I’ll have my own personal with God, For me it is a very personal sort of relationship in that sense. I just live and let live and live my life pretty much according to the Golden Rule. And it turns out well for me”.
He continued, “I think being a parent changes you because you’re no longer the most important thing. And then you start to sort of understand the whole idea behind faith and behind God. I remember being so upset, and my little kid coming to me and going, ‘Dad, it’s going to be okay. God has other plans through this’. And it was shocking, you know, for him to do that.”
Dean says that he believes in God and his faith is what sees him through when he is a bit lost.
Is Dean Cain a Christian?
Dean talked about his Christianity status with the Christian Post in an interview held on 4th February 2022. He said, “I am certainly a person of faith. I’m Christian, my son went to a Christian high school, and he was raised, a Christian. We’ve discussed religion ad nauseam, and back and forth.”
He also said in the interview that he feels that Christianity is under attack and because of that, he would continue to make faith-based films. In his words: “I like making movies of faith and discussing faith and showing faith in a positive light. I feel like there’s been a real big-time attack on Christianity and morality in a sense recently, and I don’t agree with it.”
Dean said his faith as a Christian grew stronger when he became a father. In an interview with Christian Headlines 2023, he said,
“My faith really got stronger, much stronger that I had to face it and discuss it once I became a father. That changed everything. Suddenly someone’s more important on this earth than me…. And then I have to explain to him the world and the rules of the world, and why we’re here. You get into those questions that, as a single person running around, you can always just sort of, you know, sweep that under the table…But this forced it.”
