Is Andrew Whitworth Religious?

“Beyond the Ultimate” reported what the former American football player said about his religious life in 2022. The statement was:
“I accepted Christ at a young age, but it took many years of failure and pain for me to realize what it means to follow and seek God in every aspect of my life. Throughout high school and college I lived a life of seeking what made me happy first, and whatever God wanted had to wait. I had lots of success as an athlete, but my personal life was a wreck. I was unfaithful to women, my family, and most importantly to God. I thought I was strong and had everything together, but I was only fooling myself. I allowed guilt to control my life and cause me to make huge mistakes. After college, I was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals. I carried with me the guilt of how I had failed my family and God. Ironically I blamed God and pulled away from Him. After my second season in the NFL, I decided to move home. I went back to church and felt God working in my heart. I fell to my knees and told God I was tired of running. I was ready to live the way He called me to”.
From the time he found God again, he lived according to the will of God.

I think that sometimes it’s beneficial — I know in my career, I’ve always thought if I was signing an extension or making a move that I think going to benefit me and the family, I think I always felt like, ‘All right, that means something I’m doing in the community is about to go up a whole other level. Something I’m doing for other people is about to go up a whole other level, too. It’s not just about, ‘Oh, I get to have nicer things.’”
In an Instagram post dated January 1, 2023, he was grateful to God for his life journey and his career. In the post he said;
“I will forever be grateful! What a Journey! It was an amazing year! Yet When I reflect on 2022, I think of the moments I almost didn’t get here, rather than the triumphs of this year! The moments I was in self-doubt, self-pity, made mistakes, failed, injured, tired, or was just less than who I thought God created me to be. That’s why I’m grateful not just for the Wins of this year! I’m grateful to the family, friends, teammates, coaches, and God that was there for me in the moments I took one more step! Your love, friendship, mentorship, words, or maybe just your time mean the world to me! Thank you! And I love you, people! “It’s been real 2022! On to 2023, and the daily constant pursuit of a better me!”

“I’m so thankful! God has blessed me with such an amazing 15 years playing @nfl football. And now I get an opportunity to lead differently while also rehabbing myself back ready to ride with my teammates! I get a chance to put my leadership to the test. Who am I in adversity? Is it really about more than just me? How hard can I push myself to return? What can I pour into my teammates from the sideline? What an amazing Opp! I’m so grateful for this app and I can’t wait to attack it with all the passion I have for people who support me and the men I take the field with every week! I get a chance to be about all the things I stand for! Hope, Faith, Love, perseverance, toughness, selflessness, and a man of my word! So thankful to my family, my friends, my teammates, and fellow athletes across many sports that have reached out! I won’t let you down! Let’s get it!”

“In my life, there have been so many ways that my faith has helped me in believing in myself and giving me the ability to take the next step when I didn’t deserve it or I made a mistake and I’ve been forgiven for it. I just want people to realize you might mess up one day, but tomorrow’s a new day and you already have the opportunity to chase your dreams. And if I can be there along the way to say, hey, in any way I can put out a hand or sit beside you, just listen to you or hug you or give you support in some way, I’m in and just tell me what it is I can do for you. Or maybe it’s just sitting beside you for a moment and walking along beside you as you go through something. But I just want people to know that. I’ve had people do that in my life and I just would be disappointed in myself if I didn’t return the favor and make sure that life was about more than just me. It’s about living it with the people I live it with, and that’s what makes life so much better. That’s what makes communities special, that’s what makes teams special, businesses, anything you talk about in life. We always go back to our ability to pull together and to pull that circle tighter and believe in one another. And that’s really what special movement is”.
