    It scares the flesh.

Seriuosly though, I've never actually met anyone who can explain that.

I don't really think I've ever experience a shaking like that, but I know what you are talking about.

I've had times where, in very deep worship I could "feel" the power of God like a physical force, radiating down from heaven I guess, on my hands when I lifted them.

I have had very deep numbness and/or warmth during worship or prayer, one in particular was the night I was first Baptised in the Holy Spirit and first spoke in tongues. I remember I absolutely could not stop praising God that night, it happend at a youth camp when I was 14, June 19, 1995, I believe. I don't know how long it went on, but I spoke in tongues either openly or under my breath off and on probably for several hours. When we left the sanctuary, I can only describe it as a warmth coming out from the center and up through my body.

I don't really know why some people shake. I suppose that if we were closer to God and saw him in his awesome might, we might shake too. Then again, it could just be an involuntary muscle response.

Acts 7:30And when forty years were expired, there appeared to him in the wilderness of mount Sina an angel of the Lord in a flame of fire in a bush.

31When Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight: and as he drew near to behold it, the voice of the LORD came unto him, 32Saying, I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Then Moses trembled, and durst not behold.

33Then said the Lord to him, Put off thy shoes from thy feet: for the place where thou standest is holy ground.
34I have seen, I have seen the affliction of my people which is in Egypt, and I have heard their groaning, and am come down to deliver them. And now come, I will send thee into Egypt.

I suppose anyone might tremble if they get a big enough dose of the Holy Ghost.

    God Bless!

When I "shake" it's not really shaking and it's not really shivering. The only way I know how to call it is a whole body shake. Other people might not be able to see it unless they stare at me and watch me carefully for a little while. I don't shake like a person who is very old. The shakes are a bit larger than that and come and go. But they don't come very often...

When it happens to me, it's usually just one hand, which is kinda weird. Sometimes it's both, but most of the time, just one hand.

Look at Exodus 19. An encounter with God is an awesome experience. Not only were the people shaking but the whole mountain, cf. Deuteronomy 18:16.

(Coincidentally, you will note a dress code was in force for the meeting, and the people even had to refrain from sexual relations on that day. No-- I'm not advocating dress codes. I just thought it was interesting.)

I got your answer (at least from my experience.)

It's adrenaline, pure unadulterated adrenaline. When God touches you, your body HAS to react.

There was one time that I was shaking so hard I had to have help walking to a pew. I didn't feel "drunk in the Spirit" as I've heard described. I just was reacting to God's presence.

I sometimes start trembling all over ... hands and all ... when an understanding comes to me or a need to pray for someone I feel intense compassion for, or several other scenarios ... I kind of think it's like adrenalin kicking in ... everything becomes so heightened ... even the joy and the ability to contain the joy ... a few years ago I had a couple months where I literally felt like I was floating three feet off the ground ... and was completely lost in conversation with the Lord ... didn't shake, but family and friends said I glowed and radiated peace and they kept teasing me about pulling me back down and letting the air out of my balloon ... who knows ... I just know I still thirst for that time again ...

have a friend ... once her and I were holding hands and praying ... all of a sudden it was like she couldn't hardly stay seated ... she got more and more excited and kept saying 'can't you feel Him in your hand ... He's all up and down my arm ... marsha, He's right there by your hand, can't you feel Him ... the Holy Spirit's flowing through' ... she just kept saying it over and over ... I never did feel a thing, but I had no doubt she did ... made me think maybe it has to do a lot with what kind of person we are by nature ... she's very bubbly and sparkly like that ... where I'm more reserved and cautious ... anyway, those aren't facts of any sort ... just my experience ...

good to see you lilgurl :)

I have also heard that when a person shakes like that, it means that evil spirits are leaving....has anyone else heard this, or know if it is true?

It seems to "go with the territory".

The Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, lists MANY and varied "Physical Reactions" exhibited by folks under the influence/conviction of the Holy Spirit.

It appears the "Shaking" is one of them - in fact there are at least two denominations NAMED as a result of that phenomenon. Other observed behaviors would be Crying, Laughing, "Jerking", rolling, running, dancing, praising, spinning, shouting, Singing in the Spirit, Speaking in tongues, and being "Slain in the Spirit" (the real thing - not the "ritual").

I've seen people's hands shaking as well. I've not personally had it happen to me.

Generally, I don't think its a result of demonic activity. As mentioned the Bible lists a lot of different ways peoples bodies react to the presence of the Holy Spirit. Some people find them very disruptive, unsettling. But would we really expect the power and presence of God when being manifest in our body and being to not have some physical effect on our body like our spirit and body were two separate things many miles apart. I don't think that would make any sense. Every revival I've read about had some of these manifestations going on.

Here a verse that is more general but gave me insight in God's working among us.
1 Cor.12: 4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.

The Holy Spirit has many gifts that He gives to His people. Even tho people may get the same give another believer has, how that gift works thru them will probably not be the same as the other person. But its still the same Lord at work. Then the people who are receiving the ministry of the gift will not have it manifest in their spirit and body the same way.

So the gifts are different as they come from God. The gifts are different in how the minister ministers them and the gift are different in now the person receives the gift.

This just fits nicely with the Gospels where Jesus there is no pattern if Jesus doing the same thing twice. Every one Jesus healed he did it differently. Evey demon Jesus cast out had some variation from the others, etc.

I have felt it more as a weakness in my legs than a shaking of my hands, but for me i think its just that i feel so overwhelmed, amazed, and shocked that my body cant handle it.

That has been my experience lately. A few weeks ago we had a pastor from another church visit. When he did an alter call for prayer, I went up. He prayed over me with tongues and blew on me. I immediately started shaking all over, and prayed in tongues, and one thing I noticed was my right hand was shaking. Now whenever the Holy Spirit manifests in me I shake all over and only my right hand shakes. I am wondering why that is and what does it mean or what is it's purpose. So I googled it tonight and I saw your post. I wonder if it is an anointing in our hand that is trembling? Just a thought.

"I was wondering why do peoples hands shake sometimes when they fall under the holy spirit."

Sometimes the people themselves "Shake". Biblically there are a plethora of "Physical reactions" indicated in the manifest presence of the SPirit.

In my case there's a specific identifiable "Excitement" that accompanies the overt presence of the Holy Spirit. I have a tendency to tremble, but it's not extremely pronounced.

You could also think of it like this and I haven't read all the responses so if this is a repeat of one I haven't read then I apologize....

    Just my opinion

But it could be that our bodies are imperfect and finite things right? Our bodies have an end, we know that... When the Holy Spirit comes on us, that's the infinite and perfect possessing the finite and imperfect and it's only logical that our bodies react in a totally unnatural way. I can't explain it the way I want, but I tried... :( I hope that made some kind of sense.
