Well, presumption of innocence....is hard when it's someone you'd like to see exposed as a hypocrite...but still, we can't assume guilt simply from the accusation.

Just a small "hmmm..."

Even if his computer was in fact spreading the child pornography, that still doesn't mean that this pastor actually told his computer to do so. I mean, planning a "burn the Koran"-day means that there's a good chance that some bored hackers (Muslims or not..) would've tried to get into his PC. And once you've hacked the PC of someone you dislike, what better way to inconvenience that person than by letting the PC spread child porn?

Not saying that he didn't do it (actually, good chance that he did), but there's a good chance that this thing is just some hacker's doing their thing.

edit: btw.. any other sources? I'm not entirely convinced yet that the arrest happened in the first place. :p

I'm not sure if he was arrested either, I live in Fl. and Usually when he does something stupid or hateful it makes the news. I'm sure this would have made the news as well. He's kind of like Fl's version of Fred Phelps. It says he was arrested on Aug. 4th and we are just now hearing about it?

I don't feel like being mature about this, so I'm going to be clear that I believe that he did it. And, it saddens me that so many would still prefer to listen to this guy than let people practice their religion in peace.

The reason we believe innocent until proven guilty is to prevent destroying someone by merely acussing them.

We do not know all the facts.
He made a contriversial statement, thus got into the public spotlight.
Did police look into him because of this?
Did someone else plant evidence in his computer, to silence him?
Is someone looking to discredit him?

Someone said he hasn't been arrested yet. If not then it sounds like it might be a smear campaign. Police do not let people stay free if they are harming children or paying for someone to harm children.

Hi Bill,

I understand the presumption of innocence and its role in a "free and democratic" society. The point I was trying to make is that people seem to adhere fairly inconsistently to principles such as this. So, until the conservative element in American society starts respecting international commitments with respect to (Muslim) child soldiers (see Omar Khadr), and until they start respecting their own Constitution (see the Mosque in Lower Manhattan), and until they start treating Muslims on the same standard as they treat Christians (either treat people as individuals or paint everyone by the brush of the worst most extreme example)... until these things happen, then I will feel free to adhere to fundamental principles of justice as it is convenient.

I don't like Terry Jones so I will choose to believe that he is guilty. From the outside, it appears that this is how America works these days.

For that matter, I think that it is even proper for me to paint all Christians with the same brush... being the brush of the worst apples in the orchard.

I hope that you understand that I am just trying to make a point. My commitment to the presumption of innocence is unwavering. I just wish that people believed in it all the time... and not just when it's a white Christian like Jones demanding it.

See, that's the hilarious thing - we're willing to do that - assume innocence until proven guilty, and yet this very same man cannot do the same for Muslims.
